I'm still wondering about the DUT main hotel. I made a reservation on my own way back when this DO was announced. Then I requested a room through the group. So I might have two reservations there. (I have at least one!)

When is it safe to cancel the first reservation I made?

Based on conversations I have had with the organizers, hotel details, menu for the BBQ and payment details for that evening will be coming out in the next few weeks.

Just to be clear, I am not an organizer, merely a consultant (and host for the BBQ and assault on the "Wall O’ Wine™") spurring the organizers to pull everything together and let everyone know.

So please update the wiki as needed for fair attendance for Sunday. Hours are 10 to 10, not sure all of us will make all 12 hours

Here are the age groups:

Code:
Youth (6-12)
Adult (13-64)
Senior (65+)
Please notate if you qualify for any of the youth/senior rates ^
Are you negotiating a group rate or should we plan to buy at the gate? The gate option in usually pretty quick.

You must have forgotten about the third option for buying tickets.

Hint: you can buy them in one place off of DeBarr and another off of Dimond.

As for the DUT hotel, the person responsible for those arrangements has recently returned home from the wild blue gray yonder (AKA Yakutat) and should be posting further information shortly.

Beckoa just called me. Looks like Wings flight crashed today on the way to Hoonah from JNU. Luckily they are reporting survivors. Not sure if all or not. Several of us flew this route on the last DO

There are survivors. Let's hope and pray that all those folks will be OK. Alaska offers adventures, but we always hope everyone makes it home safely.

Well said.

Four of the five passengers survived. A sad day, but I'm grateful it was not as bad as it could have been.

And those whom I've been communicating with have been out of the office.

I *think* we have something set, but want to confirm, (will do so by PM) before encouraging any cancellations. I apologize for the delays.

Just spent a long weekend out in DUT - beautiful weather and a very enjoyable time! I hope the same happens for the group.

This wildlife viewing guide is well done and a good resource to get people thinking about sights they may want to see, etc.

Also, here are a couple of links to the NPS Aleutian World War II National Historic Area. Unfortunately the individual links on these pages seem to be broken, so navigating further is challenging.

link 1
link 2

Other useful NPS Links:
NPS Brochures, self guided driving tours
WWII Museum info (don't count on the hours)
Land use permit info
Museum of the Aleutians (also wouldn't count on the hours)

Eagles in DUT

And don't forget your hardhats. There was an article in the Anchorage Dispatch News over the weekend talking about how aggressive the bald eagles have become. They are dive bombing the people in town on a regular basis.

Very touching story about the pilot. She wanted to be a pilot from childhood. Fariah Peterson passed doing something she loved to do and made great efforts to make sure everyone else survived. ^^^

Heading down to the Kenai Peninsula right now and wanted to provide an update. I did reconfirm our rooms yesterday. Nonsmoking (aside from the one brave soul trying to stay at the Harbor View Inn).

We're working on other travel arrangements too such as a car SUV rental in DUT.

Is this the go-ahead to cancel my other reservation (the one I made myself)?
