DP: I suspect that I've been MAC'ed after yesterday's application. Previous apps:

dates removed retroactively

5k match to 65k posted today. I chatted with Citi to ask for this 5k match on ~ 4/23.

5/17: denied instantly

Operator Error.... :p

30 Day Rule Violation. 30 days from 4/21 would be May 21. And that's without adding the 3 extra days in case Citi bungles the count. ;)

I've applied within 30 days before with success, though. There's no formal 30 day rule is there? :) This should abide by the standard 8/65 rules.

The only rule that applies is not more than one (typically) in 8 days, and not more than two in 60 (65 to be safe) days which means this cadence should be fine. I opened two cards in January based on timing and was approved.

By now we should know that there are different rules for different people, while the majority still do 2 apps in 65 days, some can only do 1 in 65 days, so the 30+ days between apps might not be a rule for everyone, it could be a rule for some. its better to be safe and follow the 30+ rule in my opinion.

Yes, of course, so then the OP should call Recon, point out that he was in compliance with 1/8, and 2/60, and that everyone on FT (except Robert Hanson) agrees with this. And besides it's worked for bigshooter before. Confronted with this information, no doubt the CSR will then approve the app. :p

Context

The benefit of spacing applications for the same card 30+ days apart was most recently discussed in March, beginning at post 649:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/citi...l#post30939943

30~33 day spacing emerged as a strategy in 2018 in response to Citi's MAC denials.

Agree. I don't see the benefit of applying for another card after less than 30 days. You can comply with 8/65 and still maximize your number of apps by applying once every 33 days. We've seen many sporadic reports of MAC-like denials when people apply after less than 30 days, and we know there is a lot of inconsistency in how Citi's systems work, so it just seems wise to avoid the possibility altogether by using the 33 day cadence.

When I click on chat icon, it shows the history of previous chat. How to clear that? If the chat agent can also see it then they know that I am chatting for the same 5K match even after I got denied previously.

Tania (CSR): Robert, I have successfully raised request to match offer for 65000 miles for you. Our accounts specialists will work on this and you will be notified about the approval in 3-5 days.

Will report back result. I think 5-7 minutes of time is worth the 5k points.

Successful 60-65k match times 2 recent cards. Confirmation arrived by snail mail today.

Didn't see this in the FAQ and nothing came up in search - I applied for the CitiBusiness card a few months ago. I'd like to add my wife as an Authorized User. Does this preclude her from applying and getting the bonus in the future? Does the 24-month clock start for her from the time she gets the Auth User card?

AU cards have no impact on applying later for the same card as a primary user. Except of course with Chase, which would probably add the AU to her 5/24 total, at least until you call Recon. But as far as Citi goes, no impact at all.

I believe you would add an Employee card, rather than an Authorized User. This should have no effect on her eligibility to apply for any other card, and shouldn't appear on a personal credit report because it is a business card.
