Indeed that is correct.

APC exists at very few arrival points in the US yet. At JFK only DL's terminal has them. [Fly into the US and arrive at JFK on AA, IB, AY, LA, B6? APC kiosks aren't an option because the kiosks aren't there and event scheduled to be.] ORD has them and DFW has them. I put up a post earlier this year that has the current full list of places that have them now or are scheduled to get APC kiosks.

It is a rather short list. It is the airlines and/or airports that are paying for APC kiosks -- they aren't CBP budget items. GE kiosks are CBP budget items.

“It is another layer of security that we have in place. I can’t tell you how many terrorists have been caught by asking them to say their name.”
It must be so embarrassing to have to choose between outright lying and looking stupid.

I finally "won" on the Precheck Randomizer at PHL and got the name game upon arrival at the document checker. I stated that I would rather not announce my name and was told it was required (for Pre?). I had a physically straining trip to the airport and intentionally mumbled something close to my name as I really did not want to go through the opt out process that day.

I would assert that they really believe what they said. That's the only way they would continue to come to work every day. ...just imagine if they were armed...

With many of them, you get the twofer.

Unbelievable. Men and women are trying to protect us, and have to deal with someone who thinks they know more about intelligence and security than everyone. I didn't read the whole thread. Were you wearing your tin-foil helmet at the time?

If they were really protecting us they'd be looking f:rolleyes:r weapons instead of playing idiotic security theatre games like confiscating water and asking us to state our names.

How do you know? Are you privy to the intelligence memos? Maybe they discuss the Presidential Daily Briefings with you?? Get over yourself. You do NOT know more about security than the people whose job it is to know. NOT.

You have no idea what any of us know or don't know, Carnac.

If you feel like doing a search, you'll see that many in this forum know way more than any of the no-talent assclowns in the US government as well as the clerks who infect our airports.

If you want to believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and TSA "security", that's your affair.

The reason for the name game is because too many TDCs were failing the Red Team tests and not looking at the boarding passes. Making pax say their names has absolutely nothing to do with anything other than keeping the TDCs awake. Moreover, matching names on boarding passes to ID has absolutely nothing to do with anything other than protecting airline revenue.

Before you start calling FTers names, it would behoove you to learn a little bit about what you're talking about.

Just some guys or gals sitting behind their computer pontificating.
I still can't believe the OP called 911 because the agent walked to the side with his driver's license. I'm out.

Given the totally reactionary security theatre garbage we've had to put up with for the last 12 years or so I'd say that a lot of us could do a MUCH better job than those working at the Terrorism Supp:rolleyes:rt Agency. As this is a thread about the "Say your name" game I'll stick to that topic. Can you think of any reason whatsoever why stating one's name -- while the ID-checker looks at your boarding pass and ID to verify it -- might protect an aircraft? Deferring to the big brains who run the operation isn't a valid answer to my question.

So, why do they ask? It's not for any real security reason. It's to punish the bozos working for TSA at the airport where they ask us this idiotic question as they were at some point caught letting someone through without (gasp) proper ID. So, when the TSA fails at its job we get to suffer. (I'll skip the whole "showing ID is not security" lecture that belongs here.)
