THIS IS THE 2020 EDITION OF THE RETENTION OFFER THREAD.
THE THREAD IS NOW ARCHIVED.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE DISCUSSION HERE:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase-ultimate-rewards/2031754-chase-retention-offers-2021-a.html

Please give us the following data:
Current retention offers (specify the date [mm/dd/yyyy], the card, the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

The archived 2019 edition is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...rs-2019-a.html

Indeed, but many people who had not carried a balance are now unemployed and this type of offer may be far more valuable than points.

Good point. I should have said "nothing of value to me." Of course I wasn't hoping for points; I wanted a statement credit to cover the AF.

Will probably cancel... have a few weeks left to decide.
This whole process of "retention" with Chase is so interesting...

Today I called on my wife's card. Very similar age/usage pattern to mine. The front line rep was so eager to offer me the $100 credit that she didn't let me finish asking. Super pleasant, super fast call.

Hi, I understand your frustration, because Chase rarely has offered me anything in the past. So I was a bit surprised to receive this one.
After the retention specialist patiently listened my plea, he said "(retention) offers are not available to everybody, but let's take a look." At this point I was not expecting much, but then he found that statement credit. I was grateful.

No for United MP Exp AF

No offers for United MP Exp AF. Rep did find and offer a $60 statement credit for my Sapphire Preferred.

Ritz $150 statement credit, no spend required. Limited spending on this card in the last year but substantial on other Chase cards.

I got charged $69 annual fee on jan 1 on my Southwest Plus card. I believe you get 3000 points anniversery bonus points. You get that only after the $69 AF is paid? I am looking to cancel it and don't expect any retention but wait to get the 3000 points first? Thanks

To my knowledge, this is one of the last cards with Price Protection and it has been useful when buying high ticket items like TVs, etc. With the United Clubs closed, price protection is the only useful card benefit. Any thoughts on keeping it versus canceling and opening a Club Infinite Card with sign-up bonus once travel returns to normal?
Update:
$100 statement credit posted on June 30.
I called again today (July 8th) and said I was still considering canceling the card since the vast majority of the United Clubs are closed. I was offered an additional $100 statement credit that will post in 1 - 2 billing cycles.

My thought is that Chase is offering $100 statement credits each quarter if the majority of United Clubs are closed. I'll call back again in October if the situation remains the same.

No luck

chase sapphire preferred annual fee $95 called in 3 times no offers to offset the charge. I have the card for 4 years now Wad offered to downgrade but I already have the no AF one .won't offer me anything so I'll have to close it .the only perk I'll miss is 1.1 point transfer to airlines .

Called after I got billed annual fee on Chase Marriott Bonvoy. To be hones, I dont use the card that often. Rep did not offer me any credit so I canceled. Was kind of pissed , would have kept it another year if she waived even half the fee

Anyone know if possible to get any credit on Sapphire Reserve? I heard they are doing $450 instead of $550 renewal (mine happens in October) but wondering if possible to get anything more. Do people simply ask for a retention offer or play the cancel game?

Chase occasionally will offer $60 retention credit on Sapphire Preferred, but a retention credit for Sapphire Reserve is a unicorn. It doesn't happen.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

Holder since 6/2018
Called, said cancelled, she checked for retention offers, none available. Told her I will think about it. They did give the $100 off automatically now during covid and allowed the $300 travel credit to be used for dining. So there's that.

Chase Ritz Carlton

Does anyone have any updates on Chase Ritz Carlton card? No longer commercially available, so they have you there. They have no special incentives to keep the card. Just called, no offers. AF is $450. Ouch during covid.
