Better late than never. I am concern that CX has taken down the EWR advertisement from their website. Maybe they are taking a wait-and-see approach.

why still have to wait?
I think EWR won't make them suffer any loss like DME...

I've said it many times about the benefits of EWR but I would like to emphasize one major advantage of EWR that CX should know. EWR serves a market of people that are rich enough to afford Premium Economy. People that lives in New Jersey and have the disposable income to travel to Asia are typically your upper-middle class. While there are no bankers or wall-street tycoons, but there's a mass number of upper-middle class that yearns for a great airline that provides great service with Premium Economy. Yes, these people can afford to pay $2000-$3000 on a round-trip ticket for good overall experience.

If CX doesn't have Y+, I would say putting all the flights in JFK may make some sense. But if CX is serious about making Y+ money, EWR is the port they want. Or else I can imagine Y+ to suffer the fate of the current J - when it's crowded it's mostly with op-ups due to oversold Y rather than straight revenue tickets.

Actually, there are quite a few Wall Street and industry execs (whose companies might have contracts with CX) who live in NJ (places like Short Hills, Chatham, Ridgewood, Basking Ridge) but commute to NY - similar to execs who live on LI's North Shore or in the northern suburbs in Westchester/Fairfield Cty. For them, EWR is a LOT more convenient if they're leaving from / returning home.

The pharma industry is also mostly headquartered along NJ's I-287 belt, but most of these have contracts with UA/CO - they will be harder to dislodge.

Well, those contracts can always be renew, and I'm sure if CX makes a good pitch they will consider it. Yes, thanks for another reason to show why EWR makes sense. Great potential F, J, and Y+ fliers are mostly living in NJ.

I mean if the members here support this route, I would suggest members here, especially the Marco Polo members and the Oneworld status members, to write to CX to show your support. Although CX is conservative about launching new routes, at least if you put your reasons in there, CX will put in consideration and make some of you who live in the East coast toward your dream come true

Been doing it for awhile, I did get an acknowledge letter (not auto-generated but someone actually typed it out) that it is a good one and they are seriously considering it and thanks for my inputs (this is 2 years ago thought.)

Well, write to them again with the current day's benefits that why CX should fly to EWR. Of course, the sales department got to do their homework too on how to approach the contracted travelers switching to CX from UA as there are a lot of companies in the lower Manhattan and New Jersey that could make this route successful. Another thing is, since UA has been flying this route for so long, many frequent flyers doesn't want to give up their Star Alliance status as their status equals to Oneworld Emerald or Sapphire, or Marco Polo DM or DMP. So it all depends on how the sales department pitches them switching to CX.

Just out of curiosity - what made you think JFK flyers wouldn't fly y+? Or less likely than flyers from nj? Never lived in the areas, so it would be good to learn more.

Of course I'm painting a broad stroke here. But NYC, like any other major US cities, have seem their upper-middle class flee to nearby suburbs. Not saying there aren't anymore, but in general, North and Mid-Jersey are full of upper-middle class. A typical middle-class won't buy Y+ ticket. Not saying CX Y+ won't sell in JFK, but I can really foresee EWR to be a great Y+ market (and premium cabins as well as New Jersey have many huge corporations in their own rights, and many wall-street big shots live in Jersey.)

CX828 Feb 12, 2012 6:59 pm

I think and perhaps CX thinks, that despite the time it takes to travel from Jersey to JFK, those wanting superior service/4x daily choice/HKG onward connections/new J and Y+ will be prepared to make the journey over to JFK. Most people do not fly to and from NYC and HKG that many times a year. Likely twice at most. So making the trip isnt so bad, + they can choose different times of the day to minimise travel time.

This maybe what CX is thinking.... who knows? EWR was perhaps being considered, because they felt there was more growth in the NYC market, but that slots could not be obtained at JFK?

This has been posted numerous times before by numerous people that actually lives in the Tri-State Area. To think casual folks would take the trip to JFK for CX is wishful thinking. Now, CX might have someone like me on the hooks, because I have an incentive to keep my DM status. As soon as my company grants me the wish to not travel as often you will see me traveling exclusively from EWR. (Then again I will probably stick with CX and maintain GO if I still travel 60K a year, but lower than that, I won't.)

This flight is still not bookable. Anyone have an idea when it will launch and when it will be bookable? Thanks!

It seems launch may have been suspended, as all has gone quiet. Certainly CX will not launch for May as previously thought, as it is too soon to date without any announcement or option to book.

They took down a couple of websites that introduces EWR, it seems like it's gone and let's just hope they bring it back.... before 2014...
