I doubt anyone who actually lives in the NY / New Jersey area would endorse that statement. It takes three trains and several hours to travel between the two.
I live on the other side of Holland Tunnel in NJ and it takes 15 mins to EWR. My HB who drives me to JFK has been waiting for this to happen for the past 7 years. He also "forces" me to leave the house 5 hours ahead of time; only those who drive in this area know what I am talking about......... w/o EZ pass, it is $12 into NYC using the tunnel...... |

From EWR, just take Newark Liberty Express bus to Grand Central Station, then from there take the New York airport service to JFK and vice versa. both are comfortable bus rides even with luggage. Alternatively from JFK, you may take the airtrain to Jamaica station, then take the Metro to Grand Central before riding the Newark express bus and vice versa.. I already know New York by heart and I have worked in both of our point of entry offices at JFK and EWR.. I've also stayed in NJ at North Bergen so I know what I'm saying for someone who is going back and forth on those 2 airports regularly coz of work related operations... the only think I don't like is the traffic at Lincoln tunnel going to New York during early morning rush hour when I stayed at North Bergen.. One thing going for is JFK is a major hub so fares are lower.. I have difficulty finding low fares to EWR. the only time I landed at EWR is our KE flight got diverted because of a NorEaster that suddenly hit NYC and NJ as we are about to land at JFK... but so much for that.. but my point is really since EWR is not that far from JFK and is part of the 3 major airports (JFK, LGU, EWR) of the tri state, will it be better for CX to choose a farther airport from JFK? Maybe IAD or BOS? My simple question is: Isn't it a long drive going from JFK to IAD or BOS? Compared to simply moving from JFK to EWR as it can be just by public transportation? |
I will not argue with other posters on this thread. All I can say is if CX knew that EWR will not be a success, adding EWR would not happen.

It's like adding the more lucrative HND route to Tokyo when it is already being served by NRT. And what is better revenue options for the airline comes first for CX than giving us CX customers more strategic additional airport choices when flying to the US. That's how business work. |

Of course, I won't argue with that. EWR is a lucrative route if it is about revenues. As I said, the fares to EWR is way more expensive than JFK as there are less competitors. That's why I can't find a cheap flight to EWR and always ended up booking to JFK instead.

I wonder what this new service will do to CO/UA's daily EWR-HKG. I guess there will be enough Star Alliance flyers to ensure that flight stays full too. |

CX clearly sees CO eating into its metro NYC area pie...and wants it to stop. |

Passengers from IAD or BOS don't drive to JFK, they fly AA and connect. If there are enough passengers in IAD or BOS who would pay good money to fly CX, then CX will fly there. With EWR, those from PHL can take the train to EWR. |

The only problem with the late arrival time into EWR, is that people who will go on to places like Philadelphia, its not very convenient to arrive so late at night!

What "A" route are you taking? Basically all start operating from airport at or around 6a, and some heading towards HKG even earlier. [Except the once-a-day A33 to/from Tuen Mun).

At the same time, I think that moving to DFW would be a good move to help connecting AA pax there. The only problem, is there is not a significant East Asian population there.

Overall, its a pain in the arse if you are on the NJ side of the hudson and have to travel to JFK. One of my relatives flew BR from MNL since it was much closer to them than JFK. I'm certain that passengers will love the choice of airports to choose from. And just for the record, CX is here for the O&D hence the timings. So stop saying that CX doesn't have connections in EWR!!
