If you don’t want beach, the brand new Sofitel Obelisk is very very nice and was only £99 when we did our first night there. Only downside is Wafi Mall, which it joins, is semi derelict. It doesn’t have a huge outdoor pool complex though as it is a business hotel.

We are currently finishing off at InterCon Festival City. Hotel itself is far worse than Sofitel but the attached mall is buzzing. Horses for courses.

Accor also has some bargains.
The Jw Marquis. £730 for 8 nights. Only downside is I booked on Trip.com and I always prefer booking direct. If i’ve got time this week i’ll look at using the Marriott book direct guarantee and they should refund the difference in price, need to read the small print though.

That's a good price. About 10 minute walk to the metro - which is fine this time of year.

Happy Hour from 4-7 at Cafe Artois

Strangely though, there is no requirement to quarantine until the test result comes through (or so my colleague was told).

And Today (2nd Jan) - The UAE recorded another 1,963 cases of Covid-19 on Saturday - the highest number of daily infections for the fourth consecutive day.
Interesting thanks - any other FTers here who had to be tested even if arriving with a negative PCR test? The official guidance is still the same on the EK webpage (but it always said you 'might' need to have an additional test after arrival)

Have to spend 2 weeks outside the UK to be able to return to SIN for work and will probably combine some work and holiday late January in Dubai.

For the first week (still working, don't need to be close to anything), does anyone have experience with the Hyatt Regency Creek Heights Residences? Their 1 bedroom residence looks OK to spend a week.

Probably best to ask in the Hyatt forum.

Check is the same rate is there now, if it is create a dummy booking on Marriot and ensure its same rate etc and use the best rate form for them to do a price match. They only do 24 hours within the booking, if it is cheaper then main Marriot site then u get an extra 25% discount. They didnt accept my price match but on esculation, the hotel agreed to honor the rate as I had screenshots but not provide the additional 25%. Still was a saving

How are they still on the U.K. corridor!? The UAE have a population 1/7th of the U.K., which means 2k infections there is the equivalent of 14k in the U.K..

Covid-19 is spreading in Dubai on an alarming rate. Surprisingly the local government is watching and taking a neutral position

Very concerning. The number of people I’ve seen leaving Tier 4 areas to head off for a jolly to DXB over recent weeks is also worrying as who knows what they are bringing back to the UK. Still seems to be another UK national lockdown on it’s way to combat our rise 😬

If only HMG mandated a negative test prior to boarding a flight back to the UK!

Atm i’m out in Club Suites which will be great. Sad to hear of the experiences of others and it certainly put us off booking the trip initially. But ultimately don’t mind the thought of laughing at instagram influencers posing for photo’s by the pool for a week.
If you hunt around there are some promotions direct with Marriott that make it even cheaper - albeit they are non-refundable rates - the one thing that irks me about Marriott at the moment is they're not following other brands in making all bookings flexible.

Great hotel, though. I'll be there next week if the UAE are still accepting us.

Not sure how many influencers you'll see by the pool at this particular property - they tend to prefer beach resorts. You'll see plenty of BA crew, though.
