What about a middle pair and put the dividers with the aisle seats on each side up after the safety briefing? 4EF and 11EF would have direct aisle access too, but currently blocked for parents with infants

Aircraft change -- did I just snag a free upgrade?

We are flying BWI-LHR Friday night in J and as an AA Gold I was able to add my AA# via Finnair.com and select our seats several days ago. I selected 13EF so we sit together facing the same direction.

Tonight, I went back in for some reason to take another look, and after some confusion due to the map having only 4 J seats across,I figured out that they must have substituted in a refurbished 77M with the Club World Suites. But oddly the row numbering started with rows 2 then 5-17. I'm guessing they made Row 2 of the F cabin into J for this flight because they had too many J sold for this version. Is that correct? In any case, I grabbed 1E and 1K (someone else must have moved from K to A after I took the screenshot below). Did I just get a free upgrade?

Hi All,

I am travelling with my wife and son who will be 11 months old by the time we travel, to Cancun from Gatwick. Looking at the seat map, its a new 3 class B777. My question is this;

We have pretty much been given free reign by BA system to book any seat in economy, including the 2 seat near the rear of the aircraft. As it stands, I have chosen seats 20A and B as they have a bulkhead for a bassinet/seat, obviously the risk is that a stranger sits in 20C.

Are these the best seats in Economy? They are the only ones highlighted Green on seatguru? Or should we switch to the rear of the Aircraft and have the seats where its no stranger sitting next to us, but our 11 month old on our laps?

Does 20A have a window too, or is it misaligned?

Thanks!

I have not done any travel on economy on this aircraft although we flew on the same route recently in CW and I went for a walk to the back to see how it was.
I would personally choose row 20 A/B (bulkhead) since you have no one leaning back their seat into your space which you will have row 43/44 which are the twin seats. The pitch did not look comfortable and with the little one on your lap, it will feel even more restricted.
Also it was definitely more loud at the back end of the plane near the galley and toilets and row 20 was quieter.
Hope that helps.

Thats great, thanks! I'll stick with my 20A/B then!

I have flown in row 20 on one of the refurbished 777s at LGW. I have to say that I do not enjoy the refurbished 777s from LGW because of the seat width (being broad shouldered I must infuriate my neighbour!) but being in row 20 is probably the best choice, simply because of the extra leg room as a result of the bulkhead.

I have never travelled with a child so I cannot comment on that, but I would have thought that taking the bassinet seats (all of which are in row 20) would be the best idea, I am not sure how pleasant the 10+hr flight would be with your son if he wasn't able to sleep in the bassinet. That way you and your wife can get some rest too.

Edit: For what it is worth, it is better to avoid SeatGuru at least for BA. Their data is quite often out of date or inaccurate. TheBASource.com is much better. See here: http://thebasource.com/seat-maps/b777-200er/32j52w252y/. Clicking on "Economy Class Seat Advice" will show good, up to date, accurate information.

We would prefer to both have window seats.

Cheers

Out of interest anyone have first hand experience of 8K? Appreciate limited opportunity to try it prior to C19; but wondering if it would be okay on daytime LHR-JFK service?

Frankly the differences between all of the CS seats is now fairly minimal - we are in a very different space compared to the rest of CW. The only significant difference now is whether you have windows or not. I wouldn't read much into being in the forward or aft sections either. But I have been in 8K and yes it would be fine for a day time flight as a single traveller. It's a bit odd since there isn't anyone to your left, the back of the galley storage area takes up what would have been the seating space. Night flights it may be better to go to the middle of the cabin, but I really shouldn't encourage the angels to dance on a pinhead. The WCs are on the other side of the galley, so they aren't nearby.

Do you know whether the angels generally prefer the right hand side of the pin head on an eastbound night flight

Managed to get three flights on the new seats. All 8k. I find it great for privacy and would always choose it in the future, even as two of us traveling always.

I didn't really hear any galley noise that disturbed me.

My 64K became today an 8K. *snif, snif*

Will be interesting to see how that corner seat differs from the first row of CW in terms of privacy. Based on posts here, it may be a little bit more private. Of course things may still change due to the pandemic and this particular US trip may still be cancelled.

How much do we know about variations of the new CS 777s - presumably CS is being fitted to all variants of the 777? Do we know anything about bassinets?

My seat map is different from the wiki with a break between rows 7 and 8 and a centre pair in row 18. EF is different again, and for the same flight shows the same as BA plus an additional 6 rows from 19-24.

That is the new Hi-J 777-300ER configuration. Odd that the additional rows aren't being shown on your flight as it usually shows up when doing a dummy booking.

On the 3-class 777S (32J version), does 4A have a missing window like 4K does? I’ve never flown this type of bird before. Had picked 4A for easier in-and-out but then read a review on The Points Guy who had 4K and noted the missing window.
