And there was me hoping it might be used to ORD. I guess distance and F capacity don't really make it suitable. The 77W it is!

I had assumed they'd only be used on longer routes, but thinking about it, DEL and AUH are not further than ORD are they. Maybe it's just capacity.

I would have thought most of the new 787-9s especially with the new first would be sent east to "compete" better with nearly all of the competition.

"Long and thin" is the mantra I think

Yes, discussed extensively in another thread somewhere. There are various designs out there but none has been confirmed as the new CW.

Although BA is trumpeting the Boeing 787-9's first international flight from London to Delhi on October 25, a spokesperson for the airline says the jet will first enter service in a three-class configuration on flights to Austin and Toronto.

In this configuration it'll have an extended Club World business class cabin at the pointy end, but prior to the Delhi debut will be wheeled back into the workshop for the new First suites to be installed.
Is that really the case? I'd have thought that 3-class deliveries will remain as such, with subsequent deliveries being 4-class. The only reason I can see for doing a refit so soon is if the new F seats aren't ready for installation yet.
A period of 4-class sold as 3-class? Cue the usual stampede, angst, tears, etc if so.

They seem to be selling First tickets on the services from 25th.

First seat MAP looks peculiar with only 8 seats! Not sure what would be best in J? Rows 6&7 I guess. According to BA.com there are "wider seats in World Traveller"...

I was referring to the period between delivery and 24 October, and not on the routes on which the 789 is now officially scheduled to operate.

I find it hard to believe that BA will settle for being the only major OW carrier without 1-2-1 in J when they update the seats. It's now the standard.

These are patent applications only though and there are a few covering different possible seat arrangements.
