    Voucher eligible spend
Pretty much everything counts towards the £10,000 (or £20,000) required to earn a 2-4-1 Companion Voucher, including the following which might be unexpected:
    • Foreign transaction fees

    A few things that don't:
    • Annual membership fee
    • Interest payments
    • Transactions under £1 (although you can earn the single Avios )

The online total to the right of the card summary is pretty up to date, and far more useful for tracking spend than what the statements show.

    Insurance
Both standard and Premium Plus cards include insurance benefits for goods and services purchased on the card. Full details here and here respectively. Summary of Premium Plus benefit are shown here, with standard card offering same cover unless alternate figure is shown in parentheses:
    • Purchase protection: £2,500
    • Refund protection: £300 (£200) per item
    • Flight delay / cancellation / overbooking / missed: £200 (£0)
    • Baggage delay (6+ hours): £750 (£0)
    • Baggage delay (48+ hours): £1,000 (£0), additional to 6 hours benefit
    • Accident: £250,000 (£75,000)
    • Hijack (24+ hours): £1,500
    • Hijack (72+ hours): £3,000, additional to the 24h benefit

I have noted the comments above that any Amex card can be used for a 2-4-1 booking, but wanted to double check if this applies also to using a Gold Charge card ?

No this is only for the BA Amex cards. Fee free card triggers a 2-4-1 at £20k valid for 1 year, and the £150 a year Premium card triggers a 2-4-1 at £10k valid for 2 years.

I obviously did not make the question clear ! What I need to know is whether a booking made with the BA Amex 2-4-1 voucher can be paid for with an Amex Gold Chargecard (rather than an Amex credit card).

Just looking at the terms on conditions on here - see "Companion Voucher Terms and Conditions" half way down this page, it says under point 15:

All Taxes, Fees & Charges must be paid for using the Member’s British Airways American Express Credit Card.
I don't know if this is one of those things that is enforced though. Hopefully someone will advise whether you have to use your BAPP, or can use any other Amex card, or can even use any other card.

I assume you want to use the Amex GC to hit a promotion spend target or to get membership rewards points. If you use your BAPP though you get 3 avios points per pound with your BAPP for BA spend, and this would include any fees and taxes paid when making a booking using your companion voucher - sorry if you know this already.

I think it is clear from earlier posts that another Amex CC is OK. What I am concerned about is whether an Amex charge card (which previously uses a different numbering series) would work. I would very much like to know if anyone has any practical experience of this issue.

I've used the Gold 'charge' card in the past to book a 241, no issues. From what I understand, when using a 241, all other payment options except Amex are simply greyed out and any Amex card will suffice.

    Correct.

And remember, Amex does not do name verification. Even though your name is hardcoded in the payee box, you can use someone elses Amex as long as the address matches.

Hey guys. I think I recall from time ago that platinums were able to get the BA premium card fee-free. Is that something that still happens?

It still happens but only for Plats who were onboard before 2008ish. Not available to new cardholders unfortunately.

You have 0.000000000000001% chance I think, but let us know what happens.

I've just signed up and been approved for the Premium Plus card and I have a question about hotel bookings on BA.com.

If I book/reserve a hotel through BA.com but don't pay for it up front would I still receive the 3 Avios per £ rate or just the normal 1.5 per £ rate on my payment at the hotel? Would the travel insurance be applicable in this case too?

I've been assigned to a project in Munich and whilst we are not able to book our flights directly we are expected to book and pay for our hotels so I'm trying to maximise my Avios haul as much as possible!

If you are billed by the hotel, it won't be a BA transaction so they'll be no bonus. I would be inclined to book on the hotel's site to ensure their loyalty credit.

There is no travel insurance on the BAPP card, only travel inconvenience cover related to the travel (flights/other) not to hotel stays, and this won't cover you if the flights aren't on the card. There no medical or cancellation cover but presumably you have corporate cover and if you are paying the hotel direct it would be flexible.

Just to report back, I called them up and was told that they are making a point to NEVER AGAIN give discounts on card fees.
