Location MKE
Class Reserved: Full Size
Car Received: Ford Escape SEL (2013)
Nice ride, had about 1800 miles on it, satellite was still active. it was an AWD model and still averaged about 25 mpg mixed driving, and about 28 on the highway. I was impressed.

Booked: Intermediate
Received: Ford Taurus (Premium)
This was my first time with Avis as a PC, and I'm reserving judgment. I only had the car for about 6 hours and 55 miles, so I really didn't care about the upgrade -- but... a Taurus is sort of the epitome of "meh". It's an okay car, but it doesn't excite me. Still, it worked, and the service was good (although my originally assigned car was completely blocked in, which sort of obviated the whole point of Preferred, since I had to hike to the counter and ask for a new vehicle).

Quite possibly if I'd had the car longer I would have been more impressed (e.g., if I'd had luggage, or managed to figure out how to use the electronics). I'll give it a fair shot next time. But I admit I'm still struggling to imagine choosing it over a 3-series (unless I had a bunch of luggage and/or passengers).
(And.. yes, I'd take almost anything over a Grand Marquis, including a Hyundai compact).

Hmmmm.... okay, I just read the Edmunds review. Maybe I should probably get over my 1990-era prejudice against Taurii!

), but why I'd pick the Taurus:-Heated/Cooled seats
-Sirius
-SYNC
-Size
-Seat comfort
-Touch screen display
-Trunk size
-Looks
We're all different and have different needs/preferences but that's my 2 cents.

I know the 3-series will out-handle the Taurus in extreme situations but I don't usually push rentals that hard (usually... anymore

I'd rather take a Ford Focus over a 2011/12 BMW 3-series, much more comfortable seats.

What about the media center on the BMW? I loved the 328i I got at LAX with the nav, Iphone connection that displayed the album cover of each song I played on my iPhone. Does the Taurus have that? And Bluetooth?

At least the Taurus' gearshift knob/cover didn't fall off when I shifted into reverse.

Plus the 3 series is just WAY too common. In fairness, the Taurus is pretty common as well, but I've had a number of people ask me over the past two weeks if it was the new Taurus and compliment on how they liked it/how nice it is. It definitely has a bold presence that I feel that 3-series just lacks anymore...
