Still, a nice ride and I got over 30mpg on the highway.

It has the Nav, rear view camera, heated and cooled seats. It didn't have XM radio, but they did have an one of those Avis Blast in the car for the satellite radio. I also had to get used to it shutting off at red lights because I have driven a hybrid type vehicle before. Like GNALUZU said, it gets superb gas mileage. I guess other than that, it was pretty basic.

You can plug in your I-device and play music from that.

Nice! So just the turbo-4 I'm assuming if you were able to get such good gas mileage?

Actually, I was able to stream music directly from my iPhone without plugging it in. I have a 2011 M3 and don't have that ability, so it was a nice surprise to be able to do that.

Also, mine didn't have the heated/cooled seats, so I guess that some of the 528i's at ATL are different than others.

How did you do that? I thought Apple blocked Bluetooth music?

Quite the contrary. That's something they market and promote. Being able to stream music via Bluetooth to speakers and other devices.

It says a V6 on the paperwork.

Hmm, it might be the 2011 528i?

2011 528i standard engine is 3.0L 240-hp inline 6
2012 528i standard engine is 2.0L 240-hp turbo 4
2012 535i standard engine is 3.0L 306-hp turbo 6

Unless it's a fleet only 2012 528i that retains the old inline-6?

It probably is a turbo 4 engine. I have no idea about engines in cars, but I do know it is a 2012. I like the way it drives. If it had the book in it, I could probably tell more about it. It did not have a key chain to tell what year it was either. The insurance paper in the dashboard says it is a 2012 and my paper work is what says V6, so it might just be a mistake on Avis' part.

Avis First
Reserved: Compact
Received: Mazda CX9 (Utterly enormous SUV)

In testing my theory that Avis hates me, I reserved a compact car and received a huge soccer mom mobile. Apparently, no matter what I reserve I get a SUV. I have complained numerous times, both to the Avis First desk and at various sites, and what do I get every time: A ginormous, undriveable crapheap. For the love of god, Avis, if I wanted a SUV or enormous car, I'd reserve one.

Why don't you just go back to the agent and tell them you want something different. Complaining to AVIS Corporate will do nothing, since the cars are assigned at the local level... Just takes 3 minutes of your time to change your vehicle with an agent.

Let me introduce you to a true enormous rental SUV - the Chevy Suburban. A CX-9 is a small SUV by all standards. But if you really want a compact, go back into the office and ask. I rarely leave the Avis lot with the first car that is assigned to me. Especially if you're a First member, they'll accommodate you. .

Having to go to the desk and having to deal with an agent negates the value of being a preferred member. Depending on the location, the time, and the day of the week, it can take a heckuva lot longer than 3 minutes.

The desk was actually quite nice about it, albeit slightly surprised that I wanted a smaller vehicle. The brand new Focus I chose instead was actually a very nice ride, save for the awful 4-speed auto they put into the stripped down fleet models.

I have had the distinct displeasure of being "upgraded" to a Suburban as well as to an F150 quadcab longbed (DEN just loooooooves giving me these), so I understand that there are even bigger behemoths than the CX9, but that doesn't make the CX9 any less of a bear to maneuver in a multistory carpark or to parallel park as compared to a normal-sized car.

Honestly, if my company didn't have an exclusive corporate contract with Avis, I'd be at National every time driving away the small car of my choice.

Do you rent from the same places regularly? If you do, the next time you're there, stop by the counter and ask them to add to your profile that you prefer a smaller car. This will help ensure you get a Ford Focus instead of F150's and 15 passenger vans!
