In XNA yesterday, I got there and there was the dreaded Town Car key attached to my packet. I explained that the car was a "boat" and I wanted something "out of the ordinary" for my couple hour rental. The first thing I was offered was a 4-door F150. I guess that's not a "boat" by their standards. They wound up giving me the Camaro SS Convertible. For 2 hours of driving (for a quick meeting) on a sunny day, that was a great car. I know many don't like the Camaro but I enjoy this car a lot if I'm by myself somewhere for a few days.

Do you rent from the same places regularly? If you do, the next time you're there, stop by the counter and ask them to add to your profile that you prefer a smaller car. This will help ensure you get a Ford Focus instead of F150's and 15 passenger vans!
I rent about a dozen times a year each from DEN, SFO, and PHX. SFO is fantastic about giving me midsize and below, PHX gives me soccer mom mobiles, and DEN thinks I'm a cowboy and gives me, and anyone who happens to be travelling with me, F150 quad cabs. SFO is the only location that seems to pay any attention to my preferences.

Honestly, if I really had my preference, I'd never have to drive a car again, but none of my corporate or client offices are ever fully transit accessible.

2 for 2. You are making me want to cancel my National rental to an Avis rental. If it wasn't for the Club Carlson 1500 pts/day promo, I would probably go for it. Avis' promo ends on the 30th.

did you call and make a request for this, or was it just in your spot when you showed up?

I am in DC now, but didn't need a car. Looks like I missed out. Denver on Sunday. Hopefully I will get something good there.

Didn't make a request for it; saw it on the aisle and manager gladly swapped it for me (originally assigned a 2012 Hyundai Genesis). Genesis is a good car, but I've driven it previously and always wanted to try the M37X. From the fresh water drops on the M37X, it appeared to have just come from the wash.

I saw there was another CC reservation at DCA, this person had a Lincoln MKT held for them.

Not a great car (or even a remotely good car). I suspect they gave it to me because it was a 1 way rental to be dropped at BUR, so they were happy to be rid of it!
