Initially I pulled up to a crown vic in my assigned spot. Walked inside to counter and asked if any other options were available and told only thing was a crown vic. I then asked about any "cool cars" or paid upgrades and after this, they noticed I was presidents club and upgraded me into the SS without any problems.

ATL has an extremely large Avis lot and there were tons of BMWs in the RC (red carpet ) isle. The 528i is comfortable and I like the built in Nav. Wish it had XM, but I am still pleased as it has less than 5k miles on it.

Some locations (franchise... ILM in particular) still refuse upgrades claiming "that's all I have" no matter what Avis.com or their lot show as available. They started with "I can only do a 1-class upgrade" until I called the CC desk from their location once. Now they give the "none available excuse." I often reserve full-size if I have to rent from there so I'm guaranteed better than a Corolla. Or, I'll just drive to RDU (2 hrs away) to prevent having to give them my money.
In any case, it could be something like the above reason for booking full. Also, during busy times, it is worth booking larger cars. It's possible you get there and they honestly don't have any upgrades available. I'd rather the $2 or so a day for a better car than intermediate.

It is the closest isle to where you show up, which is usually where the President and Chairman cars are. I have just never heard to it being referred that way.
Regarding access, there really isn't anything to access. We don't get to pick any car in that isle, it is just where they have our reserved car parked.

Funnest rental in a long time, since I had a Corvette with Hertz 4 years ago. Had a blast driving the 5.0 through the 13 mile Red Rock Canyon one way scenic route. Mustang was noticeably worn though and the 20,000 miles were definitely ridden hard and put away wet miles.

I was in ATL this week and the 528i had Nav, but sadly no XM. Other than that, it is pretty much a base model. The one they first gave me (but had a faulty Nav system so I got a different one) had the window sticker in the glove box. Not many options listed on it.
Still, a nice ride and I got over 30mpg on the highway.
