Received: Mitsubishi Endeavour...well not really...

Arrived on a very much delayed United flight which dumped me at the rental car counter at 230am, no paperwork or car ready. Finally looked through the computer for cars and after 15 minutes gave me the Endeavour out of the Budget side. Walked up, no Endeavour, or any car in the assigned space. Walked back downstairs, refused to give the Grand Cherokee, Explorer, Acadia or any other similar SUV that was upstairs (no small suv's on the lot). Offer a Town Car or ...refused. Eventually they sent someone upstairs to confirm there was no car in the spot, but at the 30 minute point at 3am with them practically not expecting me, I said to hell with it and walked over to Hertz and was out in 5 more minutes. Another dissapointing Avis experience.

This location was literally PACKED with cars with out of state plates likely from those stranded @ airports by Hurricane Irene. I've never seen the lot so full. At first they gave me a Hyundai Elantra, but I realized it had no registration/insurance in the glove. I returned it immediately and they "upgraded" me to a full size Sonata with nearly 25k miles on it. What a POS. The Elantra was terrible too.

For future reference, a lot of rental cars do not have insurance and registration papers in the glove box. If you get pulled over, the rental agreement serves as your legal right to use the car.

Why do they care whether you're traveling solo?

Probably because the Dodge Challenger is a 2 door car. It's a larger 2 door car, and the trunk is big. But some people, especially if they're carrying passengers, want 4 doors.

The lady listed all cars available and told me to choose one. No Caddies in this location but she mentioned they are getting some soon.

Its not a good idea to dish our legal advice on a forum.

I can tell you first hand, that this is not true in New York. New York requires motorists to carry a MV-20 form in their car, or on their person. This is the only acceptable insurance to a police officer. I've been pulled over now 3 times in an AVIS rental, and two out of the three times, I did not have an MV-20 in the glove box, and was ticketed for driving without insurance.

I later had AVIS give me the MV-20 form, and got the charges reduced, but nonetheless, I was ticketed for it.

In any case... Best to leave the legal speculation to a minimum here.

Thanks. That's what I figured and did not want to play games with that scenario. In any event:

The agent was extremely nice with helping me when I didn't see my name on the board. I asked what cars were available for my rate and he gave me the pick of the litter. Love the Mustang!
