Hi. First time poster, apologies if this breaks any rules.
I've not rented a car in the US before, I normally borrow a friends. This time I plan to do a road trip and I need a car for just under a month (full size). There are a few things I'm having trouble with:[LIST][*]I am 25, but my additional driver will be 2 months short of 25 at the time of the rental. The cheapest price I can find right now is with Avis, via Orbitz (with their $9USD/day insurance), $65USD additional driver fee, and an underage fee of $702USD ($27USD/day). That's a total of $1835USD for a 26 day booking in PA (airport pickup/dropoff) Are there any suggestions? Is it possible Avis might waive the underage fee for my additional driver given he would only be 2 months off renting? Thank you in advance. EDIT: This is 2/26/11-3/24/11. If I'm better off creating a new thread please let me know, cheers. For the dates you've mentioned plus daily insurance the total i've got is 1102.65 USD total including taxes; a savings of over $700 from booking through Orbitz. Don't quote me on this, but you can simply not tell them about the additional driver if you want to save the money. Only your conscious that is effected provided the other driver doesn't get in an accident. There's always options!! |

Considering you didnt say which airport you're arriving at and/or returning the car to, I just did a quick check on Avis.com based out of PHL using the promo code posted previously with your dates.

TravelGuard is a third party source for car rental insurance. I'd be interested whether they provide a reasonable quote. Good luck!

Thanks!

I'm having similar issue, anyone know some good underage corporate account codes? |
You could try Hertz's Underage Coupon, assuming it gets renewed for your time period, or free Hertz Gold Family: hertz.com/goldfamily

Hertz's website lists it under Featured Offers. The current number for the Underage Coupon is PC 144314. This is listed as expiring on Dec 31, although it was renewed in the past, sometimes with a different number.

Avis underage driver discount code K250544. This appears to be valid through at least 2007. Might still work!

codes for Panama
Hi Folks,
Very few/none of these codes seem to work for a 3-day rental in Panama. Any idea of where I might look for valid codes? Thanks! |

Avis is generally not so good for the retail underage renter. Granted, there are a few corporate or association contract codes that remove the underage fee, but from what I've seen at least, significantly less than with Hertz, National, and Enterprise.
Before Hertz offered the Underage Coupon and free Gold Family, many Avis and Budget locations didn't have an underage fee- they flat out rejected the underage business. Now they have a $35/day underage fee, and even admitted they still don't really want this business. Enterprise and Alamo were at the time more popular for the retail underage set, if primarily for their transparency. Yes, you would pay the normal undiscounted $75/day at ORD, for instance, and yes, you would pay the $25/day (at the time) taxable underage fee, for a very expensive one-day economy car rental, but you could add the underage fee at time of booking, rather than at the counter, and know what your final total price would be. Hertz at the time had an underage fee of $27/day, added at the counter, but the main advantage for underage renters was that often Hertz was the best value and convenient for one-ways. Could of course doesn't mean would. At that time many potential retail underage customers, myself included, assessed the other transportation options available at those prices and walked away. With Hertz's coupon, it changes everything. Avis or Enterprise may have been nominally cheaper had I been 25, but Hertz will come out cheaper since I'm not. |
A177232, listed as USAA or citifinancial? Which one is it, has anyone used it lately? Seems to offer some nice discounts.
Anyone know of good AWD for use in Florida? |

I, however, don't give out my number. I assume that if someone used my AWD number and got into an accident, I could end up being named on any resulting "Action" as the rental was on my company acct, etc...... So, IMHO, the owner of this AWD may be benefiting from its resulting use by FT members. TW |

My suggestion is to stick with the codes that have been on here for years and ignore the blind posts promoting unidentified AWD codes. |

Any suggestion on Hawaii rental?
The A679100 Hawaii Bar Assn naturally produces the lowest rate, about $60 lower than the Citicorp Leisure Travel A074800.
Has anyone used A679100 was asked to produce proof? Gosh, the rates at Big Island are astronomically high! Most other AWDs produce a $300+ weekly compact all in price tag! |

Happy, have you tried pricing the rental using the IslandAir website? I've found very good car-rental rates there in the past, and there's no requirement of an IslandAir flight to take advantage of the car-rental rates. Are these rates for Hawaiian only, or good for visitors like us? The reason I ask is, there are always huge discounts for Hawaiians for hotels and cars but they have to show their IDs to get that kind of discounts. Budget is a winner with the rates even lower than govt leisure bcd. Avis is acceptable but Hertz and National are high. I am able to get a $202xx all in with a compact, $50 lower than Avia, and over $100+ lower than Hertz and National. I doubt I would find anything lower than Budget's. Enterprise has low rates in general without any discount code but their office closes 30 minutes earlier and there is no place on their website to input flight info! Their rates are still about 10% higher than Budget's using IslandAir's BCD. A BIG THANK YOU to you guv1976, your knowledge in many areas of travel is very much appreciated! |

The IslandAir rates are bookable by anyone; no restriction as to residence. But if you will be picking up the car before February 1, you might also try AWD H854900, which is posted on the Avis "Deals" page: it will get you a weekly rate on a compact at KOA for $159/week, plus taxes and fees, on some -- but not all -- dates in January. Not sure if that AWD code is stackable with any Avis coupons. |

Anyone ever figure out what N711304 is from?
Really, really good rates with that . . . I think it might be worth a shot. |
looking for a 1-week rental of the 4-door Jeep Wrangler for the end of Jan.
Using discounthawaiicarrental i was able to get $321 for the week ($428 all in). Are there any coupons that can be added to that? or other codes worth trying? Also, it seems they have the same car at budget for about $20 cheaper. is there a reason to prefer avis for a few more $ than budget? note, i will also need to add a safety seat for my son @ $65/week |
Looking for best Minivan Rental:
Pick-Up Canton, Ohio 6-17-11 and Returning at the same location 6-28-11. Would need unlimited Miles. Using the Avis Florida A113400 Code got me under 500.00 but that one is iffy whether they ask for something or not. Anyone find anything lower from any chain? |

Overall, Thrifty/Dollar seem to generally offer the cheapest rates -- usually with just the promos listed on their site (no codes) -- but they're still usually twice the price of a regular vehicle. |

It's very difficult to get a reasonable rate on a minivan these days. You can play around with all the codes here (and in the other car rental forums), but your best bet might be to reserve a cheaper car and negotiate at the counter!

Yeah, its expensive. The Florida Code got me below 500.00 but if they ask for something I'm screwed. |

europe
anyone have any 1 way codes for Europe? Looking to go Paris to Brussels 4-22 return 4-25. Avis CSR quoted around $475 using K444404(found upthread - CSR said it was for Marquee Chairman's Club??). I think we will take train from Paris to Brugges then get the car as it is only $99 ai for the same days. Does not have to be Avis though if anyone has other suggestions.
TIA, Foy |
