One day rental in EWR
I'm planning a 1 day rental. Picking up in EWR and returning to LGA. I'm only driving 50 miles, so unlimited not required.
Can someone recommend an approriate code? Can I use the Citi leisure legitimatly (A074800) because I am a Citi card holder? |

Thanks, I'll try them. What are they from just in case they ask?
You will probably not be asked what the codes are for when you pick up your car. |
Saved me $. Thanks.

It is presumably good for other European countries as well. Note that rates change, with the same AWD, depending on your country of residence. The AWDs below, collected throughout previous messages, all give the same rate for Spain, higher than the above, though. You may try and see if they are any good in Munich. A108300 A177232 A177253 A415900 A674600 B021615 B136099 B149870 B790073 D005150 D005297 D086533 D454000 D900888 K019300 K817625 K817700 K851000 W661100 I have also collected other AWDs mentioned in the last 50 pages of this thread (from March 2009). They give worse rates than the ones in the list above (still for Spain). I list them here for convenience to spare other fellow travellers going through one thousand odd messages ! If you want to see whom an AWD belongs to, just search it in the forum or google it. If anybody has good AWDs for Europe besides the ones listed, pse submit them. The best rate that I could find is A074800 (Citicorp Leisure Travel), which should get you $148.00, plus taxes and fees, for a full size car (Avis example is Chevrolet Impala), or $216.00++ for a premium car (Avis example is Buick Lucerne), both requiring you return to one of the non-airport locations, which would mean you have to get it turned in before 6 PM on May 19. There is no mention of mileage charges for this rate, but I would call Avis rez to confirm that rate does not include mileage charges, just to be sure. Good luck and safe driving!
Thanks for this thread folks! |

Just got a fantastic rate for my upcoming trip to Melbourne next month, using this rate code (A074800) - Saturday to Monday, $110, free LDW and free upgrade to full size sports car. The second half of that deal was from a great coupon code running right now through their avis.com.au site, which gets you a free upgrade if you book 2 days with one stretching over a Saturday. That code is UPPA068 and it's better than the one offered through the US website.
Thanks for this thread folks! |
Insurance in Germany Question
For a rental pickup in Munich, Germany, what car insurance will I need? Normally for US rentals, I always decline, but for renting in Europe, I am not sure I can get by with this, and therefore, inquiring what insurance will I need to request? Or, will I be required to take insurance, and what insurance will that be, what is the cost? Thanks for any information?

Your quote is in Australian Dollars, right? Also, that COUPON CODE you used, is that an Australian only coupon? If so, it is interesting that you were able to combine a US AWD number and an Australian Coupon code for a rate that makes you happy in Australia. If it is in US Dollars, then that rate is not so hot for a two day rental, $55 per day would be on the expensive side, even including taxes. However, I have no frame of reference for Australian rates for Avis or any car rental there.
The quotes don't seem like a fabulous deal to me to, but I don't have any experience renting in Australia so, like you, don't have any real reference point other than what I got through other companies. Meh, I'm relatively happy, approximately 15% lower than the next best rate I could find. |

For both, the question would be the same, "What coverages will apply for me when renting a car in Germany?" |

Australian dollars is correct, although changing it on the website (they have an option to do so) did not change the amount by more than $1 USD. Used multiple (Hertz & Dollar) for quotes and this was significantly less expensive using any/all available promo codes and rate adjustments. The COUPON CODE was from the .com.au website; however, it seems the code system is not distinct. There is a similar deal currently through the .com (US) website but not quite as good (2 days, versus 3 minimum).

Meh, I'm relatively happy, approximately 15% lower than the next best rate I could find. In your case, $110 AUD should cost $115.89 USD, and for every $20 AUD increase, there will be approximately $21 USD increase. So, if the Avis AU site gives you the best deal, by 15%, go with that, because the exchange rate is not factoring into your actual costs in a significant way, however, the site used, rates, and discounts offered do seem to be the main factors in your costs. This is certainly not the case for every currency versus USD. |

I don't know about that. I tried Costco (I am a member!) but the code Dave_Sea posted : Can someone recommend an approriate code? I have been using AWD E400000 (travel trade) for years.
I have never been asked to prove my travel trade bona fides. Whenever I have used it throughout Europe it included unlimited mileage and CDW and LDW or theft protection. Yet the Costco AWD A108379 has just saved me $41 on a nine day rental in St Thomas later this month. Ta very much! |

Beware of the mileage-not-included on AWD A074800

I've had no problems ever, and used this AWD as recently as April 2011 (in HNL), with no questions asked. Just in case, I do have Citicorp connections.
So... keep your eyes peeled for included/not-included mileage when using the A074800 code. Jill (longtime lurker) |
Best thing about the Florida code is it has no one way rental fee. You can rent in LAX and return to JFK. Almost same price as if you return it in lax.

Just got really excited to use this AWD. For a 6 day rental other AWDs were quoting $369-$409... and with A074800 it knocked it down to $170. Wooot! EXCEPT (dun dun dunnnnnnnn) - no unlimited mileage. Considering I'd be driving this little rental all up and down the east coast, the savings I would have reaped with this snazzy AWD would have hosed me on mileage.

When making my online reservation, added a free-day Entertainment Book code. A red-flag appeared stating that the coupon would not be accepted due to peak summer months (or some similar wording). However, at the AVIS Preferred booth in the garage during check-out, the agent stated that the coupon would be deducted upon return. Returned the car - $37 came off the bill. Another happy AVIS Preferred member! |
