As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

Guys, I remember Avis used to have "free weekend day" or "$xx off xx weekend days" type of coupon codes (not AWD) years ago, but the old one I saved all show as invalid now. Are these things all gone for good?

With the chip shortage, most discounts have been gone. Low supply means no need to boost demand.

Chip shortage? How is it causing low supply from car rental companies?

Fewer cars are being made. Those that are mostly go through retail channels above MSRP, rather than offloaded in bulk to rental companies at a discount. Manufacturers are also prioritizing the most expensive models and trims over the levels normally cost-effective for fleets.

Rental companies are trying to fill gaps in their inventory by buying new cars from dealers, and even used cars at inflated prices from dealers.

All of this means that even if rental companies were willing to take a cut in profit, their base costs are much higher than before covid.

Is this new? They have "said" this for a while but it has never happened in my experience. I use the wizard service to go straight to the car. Have not done this in 2023 yet; any intel on whether this has actually become something they check rigorously?

Some AWDs have required a qualifying email for a while. Most don't have that requirement, yet.

What happens if you provide a fake email but with the right domain?

I do get quotes - just wondering if their IT is sophisticated enough to realize that the email with the confirmation will bounce back

Seriously? Fake business cards weren't enough? How about using a rate code you are eligible for? Technically, it is very easy to scan for an "Undeliverable email" response. Whether they do it is a different matter.

I might be missing something here but isn't the point of the group to get access to the AWD that you are not eligible for?
