Welcome to FlyerTalk!! Check this thread for details. Also, in the future you can use the search feature on the top of the page. It's not the most user-friendly thing (or even close) but if you put in your AWD code, it is usually good at finding the posts.

AWD with LDW Insurance included

G624400 is a code that will give you free LDW insurance included with your rentals - tried it this week and it popped up on the contract with no restrictions! I guess if you have to buy LDW insurance anyway, this is a good bargain. I've heard that you can accompoany this AWD with a good rate code (that you can get from inputting beforehand, another AWD that has better rates) and take the best of both worlds.

So what of you sign up fpr the avis preferred or whtever the bypass program is and use the employee code? has anyone had any luck with that. Funny thing, I didn't bother to check this site and bought a code off of ebay. It turned out to be the employee code and when I went to get the car they asked for id. If i was able to bypass her it might have worked. any help would be appreciated. I am going from Vegas to LAX area one way and I need a minivan for the fam.

Oh yeah, so the way I found out was I had originally booked the trip above, for July, and then booked another trip the same way but different date, for June. I called avis to see about an additional driver for the July trip and add my NWA FF#. The response was that the july vegas to cali trip confirmation would need a CC to change anything. No problem, i thought I was all set, then I went to vegas last weekend and that was when it happened.

So what happens now? Would you think I could get the car on this tecnicallity where they are going to charge me if I cancel same day right, but I want the car at the rate I got? I am not sure what to do? I will have a back up plan since I will be traveling with my wife and kids.

Although I do see that using this AWD number sometimes increases the liability insurance charge upwards 300%.

LDW Included

Call me overly risk averse, but I've been wary of using codes that "include LDW". I can see that aspect negating the credit card insurance (that requires one to "decline" insurance) and, if later challenged on use of the code, becoming reliant on own insurance. When someone "has never had a problem" that sounds like "I've never gotten a ticket for speeding but do it all the time." Does anyone have knowledge if credit card insurers view the "decline" requirement being met even when the rental was initially with a LDW included code? In the past, ezmoney noted that if pressed Avis can provide quite a history to the insurer.

Newbie Question....Help???

Question: Has anyone who is signed up for the My Avis or Preferred Avis program used the employee code to rent, bypassing the desk, been successful?

I rented a car from Avis in Australia in March 2007 using N744100, which I had gotten from British Airways & lowered my "excess" ( =deductible) from the normal A$2500++ to A$1000++. I scraped the fenders against wooden stumps too short to see :( , so upon return they charged me A$1240 incl. GST, airport concession fee, & 1 other tax.
Back in the USA I filed a claim with DC, which denied it on grounds that I had "accepted" the automatically included LDW  !

-rentals in Europe have unlimited mileage
Your quote includes: Local Tax (TAX), Vehicle Registration Fee (VRF),
Airport/city/other surcharge, Unlimited Mileage

So, I called the President's Club Reservation and asked to add my Wizard #. The agent did and told me, that the reservation changed to "my AWD" and was (much) more expensive ... told her to leave the reservation without Wizard # .. and she did.... checked it at http://www.avisworld.com

Was that prudent? And is it ethical to use a (phony) AWD? Any advise .... thanks. The reservation is in FRA and I have to go to the counter anyway.

The process to follow is to leave your wizard number off the reservation. When you get to the airport, go to the Preferred booth and have them manually add your PC #. You will then be given a couple of car choices based on what is available. It's quite painless.

Actually, when I find a AWD code that gets a great discount but is not compatible with my wizard number, I just change the AWD code in my profile to the new one, make the reservation, then switch my profile AWD code back. Works like a charm and all my reservations show up fine with "preferred status confirmed for this rental".

Mrp Alert & Savage25:

Thanks! Great advise from both of you. I don't expect any problems. I have had good service from Avis in the past ... that's the reason I use them again & again. Another company in Europe with good service and nice cars is Sixt.
There was a discussion on this board regarding insurance. For car rentals in Europe I always use use my Visa CC. Some American CCs have insurance coverage in the US and some exclude Italy and other countries.

Employee Discount Code

i just used the employee discount code in canada, and it worked while booking but they do check when you pick up your car to see if you are an employee. so in that case, the discount didnt work.

ram27p Jun 19, 2008 7:03 pm

I've heard nothing but bad things about people trying to use employee codes in north america when they're not really employees. Wouldn't recommend it.

farmers

just made a booking with farmers insurance and it turned out to be more expensive than with no discount at all

Who did you hear this from?

ram27p Jun 23, 2008 2:20 pm

Don't actually know a person that tried to use the code but a few people have posted saying that they were questioned for id and unable to use the reservation. Have also heard a story that reservations using the employee code get locked and only the manager at the station can authorize the rental after they've seen id. Dont know if that's actually true though.

jaredp Jun 24, 2008 5:08 pm

It is true. Saw it happen three weeks ago at SYR. A legit employee had to wait for a manager to come off his break to unlock the rental. The manager complained that he had to cut his trip to the facilities short for the guy.

New discount code - for Barclays Bank customers with Additions bank account upgrade

W300012

Apparently gets you the following discounts:

UK 10% off best available rate on the day
Europe 10% off Avis SuperValue rentals
USA and Canada 5% off inclusive holiday rates
Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa Up to 10% off standard rates
Avis Chauffeur Drive 10% off in the UK
Avis Prestige Cars 10% off in the UK

I've used it for a 13 day booking at YVR and it actually got me £100 off on avis.co.uk website.

On this booking it included LDW with £0 excess according to the website. Will see when I get there next Friday!!!

£426 for 13 days hire of a Standard SUV on a Pay Later (no card details to reserve) rate. Pay now was more expensive for same T&Cs!!!!.

I have a backup 'no card' booking with Alamo just in case!!

RaysMD Jun 27, 2008 3:01 pm

Looks like the netjets code isn't giving me a great discount for a 30 day rental in spain. Only getting a 23% disc.

anyone have an alternative for rentals in Spain over 30 days?

Hello, i am UK citizen who will go to Greece for vacation so i am looking to rent a car from Avis from 1st of August to 25th and i want to rent a Large: Intermediate ranger, preferably an Audi A4 1.6. Can someone suggest me the best voucher which does not require a ID , just the best discount available :)

According to Avis website it gives you:

All Mandatory Charges , Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), Additional Liability Insurance, Tax, Unlimited kilometres

Vehicle Damage Cover Excess - $0.00

Vehicle Theft Cover Excess - $0.00

(well, it does in Canada anyway - you will need to try making a reservation to see what it says for your rental location).

EDIT 1/7/08:

CAN CONFIRM THAT BOOKINGS FOR CANADA USING AVIS.CO.UK NOW HAVE ZERO EXCESS - AVIS HAVE CONFIRMED THIS TODAY ON THEIR BLOG (YOU GET QUICKER ANSWERS THERE THAN YOU DO BY EMAIL!!!)

ALSO CANADA PRICE FOR EACH ADDITIONAL DRIVER IS $10 PER DAY UPTO A MAXIMUM OF $45 PER BOOKING AND THERE IS NO CHARGE IF THE ADDITIONAL DRIVER IS YOUR SPOUSE.

Bram Jul 4, 2008 9:50 am

Thanks, kirky, the code you posted is producing crazy good rates for me in Canada and the UK, and the LDW is just a bonus. Would you mind posting a link to the entry on the Avis UK blog that you mentioned? I searched for it and couldn't find anything. Thanks alot again.

Any more feedback on "LDW Included" rates?

I posted a concern with LDW Included rates. As much as they might lower my cost, I've been wary because of the possibility I'd lose credit card insurance coverage and have the damage hit my personal policy, with resulting rate increases. Domestically I rely on AMEX's $25/rental coverage as primary, which requires declining the LDW, IIRC, and internationally I rely on any card, as primary coverage, which also requires declining. One response was that the rate's LDW worked without challenge. One response was that DC declined damage coverage due to the "LDW-included" AWD. On the rental form I want to be able to check the box "decline" and I've had "LDW-included" AWDs block that. Does anyone else have experiences? Thanks.

From previous posts:

A113400 State of Florida code

Thanks

Well, I got around to trying this code on my latest trip to FLL. Gave me a great rate compared to other available rates. I booked it online and was hoping I would just pick up the car and not have to talked to anyone (Avis Preferred President's Club). When I got to the pickup location, my name was not on the board so I had to go talk to the preferred counter rep. She looked at the reservation and asked if I had State of Florida ID. I said, 'No, my company is a contractor for State of FL'. She looked very dubious, and asked the guy next to her if it was OK - he said it was and they gave me a car. If the guy didn't chime in, I think I would have been in a bit of trouble (had Alamo as a backup but for a substantially higher price). Moral of the story: great rate, but have a backup and don't be surprised if you have to use it.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has used this code and gotten on the preferred board.

I also use the Amex platinum card $25 plan when renting a car. On my last project in New Jersey, the AWD code the company I was working for had LDW. I actually got into a fender bender while exiting the EWR Avis lot (what a clusterf*** that place is). I made a big stink about how their lot was a mess and how they should just give me a new car, but they made us both fill out the accident report, etc. They gave me a new car and I never heard anything about it again. I don't know if the corporate LDW kicked it or what, but I never had to use the Amex card insurance and as far as I know, the company I was working for didn't get notified because noone ever mentioned it to me.

I'm going to try it at the end of August at JAX. I have a Prius on reserve for 5 days at about $197 all in. I also have a Hertz rental as a backup but I can't pick it up till noon on Thursday (50% off weekend coupon). The Prius I can pick up when I arrive on Wends night.

I'm half tempted to just book a sub-compact and ask for the Prius as a Pres. Club member - what do you guys think the chances are of be being able to get a Prius off of a Sub-compact reservation at JAX as a Pres. Club pref. member are?

Brendan Jul 14, 2008 12:25 pm

IDK about Pres. Club, but I am a Chairman's Club member & I am entitled to the fanciest car available when reserving & paying for Midsize. I have been upgraded to Cadillacs & Lincolns.

trekwars2000 Jul 14, 2008 12:36 pm

Will they upgrade to the "cool" cars though? My experience has been the same as you, as long as I book mid-size/intermediate I can get a DTS or a Convertable or a SUV. I've never asked for a cool-car upgrade...

I've gotten the following upgrades to cool cars as a President's Club member: Eclipse coupe/Spyder, Mustang coupe/convertible, 300 Touring, H3, Saab 93 convertible.

I've also seen preferred counter agents that I've gotten to know well show me a slip of paper showing that CTS, Prius and Solstices are generally off-limits to President's Club upgrades under normal circumstances.

I reply to to the Avis discount codes.

Be careful! You cannot use the Avis discount A153700 if you are not an Avis empolyee... It might let you book the reservation with this code but you will need to have a letter form an Avis manager to proove that you are an employee of Avis. They will not honor the rate or the discount code if you are not an Avis employee!! DO NOT BOOK A153700 IF YOU ARE NOT AN AVIS EMPLOYEE!!!

bob1008 Jul 19, 2008 7:31 am

That list of discount codes above is getting old and stale. I would not rely on many of those codes there. Several are no longer active, and many good new ones have not been added. I continue to use G417900 with consistantly good results, free LDW, and never an I.D. issue. :)

I still find K444404 *NetJets* code awesome in pretty much every location I've booked. No ID issues whatsoever. ^

While your standard credit card coverage may be secondary in the USA,
for rentals overseas (ie Germany) it is PRIMARY. Your stateside policy does not usually provide coverage in Europe. When my parked car was damaged in Trier Germany, I was required to file a Police Report (they will mail it to AVIS but will not give you a copy) My VISA paid the whole total with no deductible
The European AVIS sends copies of forms and it takes 10 min to fill it out.
There is no questioning about what kind of discount you received as VISA's
insurance carrier only cares that the accident was reported to police as required by German law.

What you get in Florida or other states in the US is completely different If you are concerned about that there are others that will get you unlimited miles,
