green - year 2 / first retention fishing
15k MR initial offer, pressed for cash and finally got $100 statement credit. same spending - 1.5k over 3 months. rather cash to keep net AF low, really dont use it too much to justify the 150 to begin with. too many other cards with lounge benefit.

Couldnt you at the very least take those 15k MR pts and redeem it for $150 statement credit....... ?
From amex site:
"Redeem 1,000 Membership Rewards points for $10 in statement credits towards all eligible purchases charged to the Card.1
The minimum redemption requirement is 1,000 points."

Looking at your dates, this is because amex doesnt give offers until 13months has pass right? So I guess you have to pay the annual fee first and then ask for retention after the 13months?

That makes no sense. I'm going to call the day I see the AF appear in my account, before I pay it. What's the point of paying it if you aren't going to keep the card?

I’ve accepted AmEx Loyalty Incentive (retention) offers at 3 months from account opening and 11.7 months from account opening. Also several at 12.1 - 12.5 months from previous accepted offer. Been offered many at 11.5-12.5 months from account opening and 12.1-12.8 months from previous accepted offer.
Also made many calls recently about a second retention offer for an account that I had previously (prematurely) accepted a retention offer (#1180). In speaking with several different AmEx agents not one suggested it’s 13 months, they all said “1 year” or “12 months”.

“Hey, I know I just got this card and the sign up bonus, but I am now concerned that it isn’t worth the annual fee, so could you make it worth my while to keep the card?”

Not quite notquiteaff . (? American Forest Foundation, ? Accelerated Free Fall)
I was calling primarily about a 4-5 year old card with last retention offer 12 months prior, decided to ask about my other 2 AmEx biz cards; 8 months and 3 months old. As described in post # 1180 I was feeling quite smug about receiving a retention offer on a 3 month old card … until 9 months later when the AF was billed and I was between a rock (pay large AF) and a hard place (close account 9 months after accepting retention offer).
