That's the post I was questioning what the 10k offer was for. Which Amex offer is giving you 10k points?

Have had the regular Platinum card for 4 years. Got a $550 statement credit in 2021. Not surprisingly, no good retention offer for me 1 year and 2 days later. The only thing offered was to use 69,500 of my MR points to pay the fee, which would be a reduced rate from the 100K normal conversion rate. Not a good deal, right? Better to pay the fee (I am keeping the card), save the points, and use them for travel later, I think? Opinions???

You would need to wait until 13 months after the previous retention offer. I would not use points to pay the annual fee.

Amex Platinum: 3 years of back to back retention offers:

- 11/17/2022: ~$6,500 spending. Offered 30K points for $3K spend in 3 months, Took it.
- 12/05/2021: ~$12,000 spending. Offered $150 statement credit, Took it.
- Somewhere in 2020: ~$10,000 spending. Offered 55K, no spend. Took it.

Never waited exactly 13 months, always just texted them a few weeks after AF hits. (which is around end of october)

I also had the Amex Schwab Platinum this year, but the retention offer was 20K points for $2K spend. Interesting because I had $10k spend in this card.

Question:
  • Can you get multiple retention offers for different cards the same year? or is it one retention offer per account per year?
  • Does overall spend across cards affect retention offer elegibility? Or account longevity? I don't understand the algorithm as i've seen people with way more spend get no offers..

Edit: It looks like you can get multiple retention offers in the same year. When talking about closing my amex schwab they offered me 20K for $3K spend after I received the retention offer on the regular amex plat

My guess is the $150 statement credit isnt considered a retention offer by the system

this is madness that they wouldn't give you an offer for the Brilliant, it's a card that isn't worth a penny over $450

If your card were issued in the USA you would have agreed to keep it open for 12 months as a condition of accepting the points. I do not know if the UK retention bonuses include the same stipulation.

Is it 12 months or until next renewal?

Is it necessary to even ask for a retention offer or will they automatically give you one when you ask to cancel?

When I call to cancel sometimes the AI cancels immediately, sometimes the rep cancels immediately, and sometimes they offer retention.
