I just applied for the American Express Platinum Delta SkyMiles "pre-approved" offer in my account (70k miles + $100 statement credit). I figured I had nothing to lose, since I was sure to get the card. That's what "pre-approved" means, right?
Well, not exactly. When I actually applied, I got the same lame message that many others get who are not "pre-approved":
Thanks, Joseph. We've received your application, but we can't give you a decision right now
Uh....ok. Pardon me, but if you're going to claim that I'm "pre-approved" and then proceed to treat me like everyone else, you might want to consider marketing your offers a bit differently, because they're very misleading. At the very least, consider placing an asterisk next to the words "pre-approved", with accompanying fine print explaining exactly what that means.
Disclosure: I did lock my Equifax credit report a few days before applying for this card. But, this shouldn't affect their decision, since Amex pulls from Experian.

These days banks hardly send out "pre-approved" offers. More like "pre-selected" and approval is subject to applicant's credentials submitted.
2) There is no guarantee AMEX would pull Experian only. Making such assumption is a fool's game.

1) Is the "pre-approved" words on your offer? Or simply an offer showed up in your account?

had both Gold Delta Amex personal &
Gold Delta Amex busn in past;
never either Platinum, therefore I qualify
for Platinum 70K bonus offers + $100 cred statements...???
is there current best "trick" if applying
now for both Platinums, personal + busn?
one after other immediately? preferred order?
does minimum time need pass since cancelled Golds??? (~2015)
saw nothing in wiki about it;
expert advice appreciated,
thanks in advance!!! ^ ^ ^

When does the $50 statement credit usually post? I had a delta.com purchase and it's been 2 weeks but nothing shows. I checked with the friend who referred me and hers posted the next day.

My first statement on the business platinum card also closed with over $4k in spend (indeed, over $5.5k in spend, so not like I was cutting it close, and none of it in obviously "high likelihood of refund" categories like airfare) but no sign of the bonus miles.
Any other data points? In the past with other Amex cards I would have expected to have both the statement credit and the bonus miles by now.

data point
Froze my Equifax acct. last month and decided to apply for the Amex Platinum DL Skymiles Business card today. App. went pending so I called CS and the rep said it was because my Equifax acct was frozen. After a few security type questions she said she could approve me since I was an existing customer but I'd have to hang up and she would call me back. After repeating DOB, SS & address I was approved.
As to questions above: The $100 credit for a DL purchase on my wife's card posted 4 days after a food purchase onboard.

Just called Amex and they confirmed that everything appeared to be in order on my account but they are in fact delaying bonus posting -- agent said specifically because of people claiming bonuses and then immediately closing the account.
My main concern was whether the 10,000 bonus MQMs would post this calendar year or not (and whether, if they posted next year based on activity this year, they would qualify for this year's or next year's status earning with Delta), but she said that the T&Cs of the mileage and MQM posting is within 6-8 weeks of the required spend, so even if it takes the full 8 weeks I should still get the miles before the end of the calendar year, so hopefully that works out as planned since I'm counting on those MQMs to hit DM this year.

I earned $100 credit on a $50 Delta eCard purchase on the Delta website about a year ago.
Btw, it's harder to get newer datapoints because the credit seems to post much more slowly these days, per recent posts in this thread:
and so now those delays, instead of how people got the credit, is the main talk of the town about the credit.

In the event a gift card doesn't work, if you know someone who is flying DL maybe you can pay their checked bag fee on your card?

Does the $100 statment credit count against your total spend? In other words, I've done the $5k spend ($5026.xx) Still waiting on the 70k bonus to post. My 120 days are up in 5 days. I plan on to get the $50 delta egc for the $100 credit....so will this affect the $5026 spend I did? I dont want to spend additional at the moment if I dont have to, lol My total spend does not include the $195 af
thanks

But if you're still worried, why not just get a $100 Delta GC? You're not likely to find a flight for between $50 and $100 (and Delta only allows 3 GCs to be used per ticket purchase), so you're not really "losing" anything by buying a $100 (instead of $50) Delta GC, are you?
