Exact offer was $15k in the first 90 days.

Cost/Value of Amex 150,000MR Platinum Bonus

I am trying to decide if it's worth biting on this offer given the incredible amount of churn needed to get the full bonus, but here it is:

100,000 MR with 10,000 spend (90 days)
50,000 MR extra with 10,000 additional spend (same 90 days)
$450 annual fee

For me, I would be doing standard manufactured spend churn to hit the target, so that breaks down as:

$20,000/$200 gift cards = 100 gift cards
100 gift cards x $6 (avg) = $600
100 gift cards x $1 (avg) MO fee = $100

So, that gives me 150,000 MR for a total approx cost of $1,150 or .008cpp

I am looking for the highest and best use of the points given that I still need to fly frequently to maintain my 1k status, so cashing in for free tickets is probably not in the cards, but redeeming for upgrades on *A partners would be my only likely option, although I have two business class tickets to either New Zealand or Africa in the horizon over the next year or two, and that might be an option for a free ticket redemption.

Is this exercise really worthwhile in the eyes of the community?

Why not just buy forty $500 Sunnies at WM? Instantly load them to your BB/Serve at KATE. That's under $200 in fees. Excluding the AF (which actually only costs you $50 the first year after 2 X $200 airline GCs), that works out to .11 cpp, after you factor in the 20K extra points you'll get for your spend. Waaaay better deal!

I did this bonus a while back... of course, I was able to put about $6k of my required spend through AP and Serve, while the rest of it was legitimate spend.

But 150k points for $450 plus some minimal additional costs...

Dont forget you also get $200 (and really $400 since you can do it each year) in airline reimbursements, plus 10 free GoGo hot spot passes, plus the other perks of a Plat card.

To me, its def worth it, but to each their own.

IF you were to buy 40 of the same thing, same amount, location, etc.., wouldn't that raise a flag to Amex?

Same if you did $5k per month at Target for RB... would Amex suspend your account?

Could you mix in buying AGCs from their site via TCB, too, or would that sever the relationship?

***Or.... if you mixed it up between store buying of GCs... and RB.. and legit spend... and AGCs via TCB or other portal... would it mesh just fine?

I really should look for everything that comes from Amex from now on. Does anybody have experience converting Gold to Platinum instead of reapplying?

OKay, 150k points Amex Plat Biz for $15k in 90 days was APPROVED! Received card the other day. Now to pony up and get $15k spent without severing ties with Amex.

Going to mix in some RB, normal spend... etc..... wife and I are going to be building a house so hopefully that'll mix into the spend too.

If anyone has some additional "safe" routes of getting some extra spend, "that'd be great". (Lumberg voice from Office Space)

Thanks!

So, I've met the initial 10k spend of my 150k offer.

By now, I realized that getting the points might be a long shot since I have a biz plat, albeit for another business.

Never hurts to ask, so I struck up a live chat. Played aloof, then when I eventually got the "not available to customer who have held in 12 months...." I got firm, but stayed respectful. Told them my spiel, about how I received such an incredible offer and I needed to have a card for my new business, and thought it was a perfect opportunity because the biz plat was so useful for my other business. I said no one mentioned that rule to me during my multiple confirmation calls and those over chat reassuring me that I'd get the points.
Had a chat screenshot ready incase they asked for any proof or whatever.
They asked for the referral code and how I got the offer and how I applied. I kept it all handy and told them exactly what I did.

The guy said he opened an investigation and escalated it for me since despite the rule of no bonus twice, I was promised the points, so we'll see what happens.

Could be nothing, could be a consolation offer, could be the whole deal.
I'll keep anyone posted that's interested.

I had a bunch of readers try using that POID and none of them had any success. Reps wouldn't budge on requiring the VIP number. There is a way to get around it kind of, but not really scalable.

Question: With the once in a lifetime rule, can anyone tell me if it's possible to get two Amex Plat Biz cards for two different legit businesses?
