Same experience here. Flagship Lounge is more like lounges in the US; crowded; limited food offerings. I am AA EXP but after discovering GF that is my home away from home when I am at T3 now. I was there two weeks ago, and those six bottles of champagne (three pink, three white) looked tempting. At 9AM.

I had espresso and a light breakfast instead, which was very nice.

BTW: rereading my post. "I am EXP" - funny how airline status has become part of my personality.

Since we are connecting (albeit a 20 hour connection) I thought we could follow the connections path upon arrival, talk to an agent in the AC or FL, then find our way from there to immigration. Am I hearing that is not possible?

Once in T5, it is not possible to get to the departures hall and exit the airport without an escort (although it raises no questions at all, other than the normal questions you might encounter at immigration; I have done it a few times in order to go for a run during a long layover after storing my bags in the lounge).

From T3, however, one does not need an escort. It is entirely possible to walk past the flight connection desks at T3 and backtrack to the immigration area without an escort to exit the airport. Again, I have done this in order to go for a run after storing my belongings at the lounge, and also did so to catch a matinee at the Royal Court Theatre during a particularly long layover!

I made it from DFW to LHR Sunday night/Monday morning on AA 50. I return a week from today on AA 51. I have the arrivals lounge figured out and done. I know what to do for Flagship Checkin when I leave. So, now comes the lounges.

I figured I would just do the BA Galleries First lounge in T3 because everyone says it's way better than the AA Flagship Lounge. The LHR maps tell me the AA lounge and BA lounge are in the section with gates 13-22. The fact that the AA lounge is there tells me that AA departures leave from gate 13-22. Is that always the case? The CX lounge is in a totally different set of gates. And it seems they are a long walk away. This makes me think the CX lounge isn't worth it.

Stick to BA Galleries? Any real reason to go to the Admirals Club/Flagship lounge? This is a 9:45 AM departure, so I am not gonna get there mega early just for a lounge crawl. If parking myself in BA Galleries First is my best bet, then that is what I will do.

The three lounges are very close to one another with less than 3-5 minutes between all three.

Coming from the main area of the Departures Hall, CX is to the left and will be in the right ( go up the lift/elevator), for BA turn right and there will be a long hallway on the left; the AC and FSL are to the right and then on the left near the VS Club House.

That would be a very incorrect assumption.

AA flights make no use of gates 13-22 at all, they tend to depart from 24 and above with most flights leaving from the higher numbered gates above 32.

Hmmm

The map on the Heathrow website indicates it is a 20 minute ( ) walk from the central departure lounge area with all the shops to where gates 13-22 are with the CX lounge being in a totally separate wing/pier. I figured the AA departures go from that 13-22 wing/pier and back tracking 20 minutes of walking just for a lounge peek isn't worth it.

To get to the far gates, it can take 20 minutes. However, the lounges are all right there in a pretty central area, along the same corridor, which the map does not depict well at all.

I've done this ~15 times this year; I'm very familiar with each lounge's location.

It's no more than 5 minutes between the CX and AA lounges and BA is in between the two if them.

The oneworld map does a better job depicting how close they are to each other:

I've flown out of 17 on AA once, but I agree it is very rare.

Definitely rare; did fly out of gate 13 on AA metal last spring though.

Ok..thanks. It makes more sense. When I looked at the maps, it indicated that they were within a certain wing/pier, but when you looked at the map, it never really ever actually told you where EXACTLY the lounges were.

rwoman is spot on; in fact I think giving 5 minutes to walk from the CX lounges to the AA lounges is quite generous. I'd guess a normally ambulant person would make the walk from one entrance to the other in 60 seconds. If you've found one lounge you've found them all; as you're looking at the wall of lounge entrances it goes CX --> BA --> Why bother AA.

And since BA enhanced away hot food in the lounges for long swathes of the day, CX is the plave to be. Especially if you like noodles.

If you're going in the am though, BA have now introduced the hot breakfast buffet in their T3 Flounge, so I am defaulting back there again. As long as there is Taittinger and not Castelneau, it's a decent breakfast
Also, the noodle bar doesn't open up till a little later in CX (well, hasn't when I've been in there at least...).
