I made a reservation in March to use my SWU before it expired in March. I have a reservation for July 2024 using the SWU.
I called AA to change my reservation to different cities for Jan 2025 that have upgrade availability for my flight. The agent went away to talk to his help desk When he came back, he told me that I could change my reservation to new cities and apply my SWU.....but only until Dec 31, 2024. He said that the SWU had to be used by the end of the year. He told me that if I used a new SWU in 2025 and I wanted to change it, then I would have to change it to a flight before Dec 31, 2025. Is anyone getting this same new guidance about when you change your applied SWU reservation to new cities, it has to be before the end of the year? |

Given all the (imo) mediocre data points for EXPs lately, some with very high LPs, are Gold or Platinum elites upgrading at all anymore? It would be interesting to see someone speak to what the 2023 year as a Platinum was like.

And when you call back, don't mention anything about your first call or about the SWU expiration date. Just that you have a reservation XYZ and need to change the dates. Once they confirm the fare difference just casually mention to make sure the upgrades carry over as there is also space on the new flights. |

HUCA. First time I've heard of that one. Another agent making stuff up about SWU use and what you can or can't do.

LAX-JFK
Friday, May 31 Early morning My upgrade to business cleared just prior to the start of boarding. I was #1 of 18 and the only one who cleared. EXP, probably 250-260K rolling LP. |
A rare T-96: DFW-CLT for 6/5
|
I actually didn't mention that it was expired. He just brought up that I could only use it this year. But I will do a HUCA. Thanks!!!!

I'm at T-25, with 5 available in J on the outbound, and 7 available in J on my connection, and still no sign of complimentary upgrade. ~365K rolling LPs. Thought something would've cleared by now.
And I am no longer seeing the option to purchase an upgrade. .... I am guessing this is because one of my return flight segments upgrade cleared already??? |
Today I was 1 on the list out of 15 for 0 seats CLT-TPA.
|
Plat pro, upgraded on 5/30 from PHL to PHX. Flight was scheduled for 7pm-ish but got delayed to 8:30.
also upgraded for tomorrows PHX-GDL flight at 8:30am. An upgrade on the return leg seems likely just looking at the seat map. |
Was #1 of ~40 on BOS-ORD this afternoon. The flight was booked solid in J a week out. Ended up moving to the morning due to some delays, but would have been in Y (exit row) as no one cleared off the list when the flight left.

JFK-LAX
Late afternoon 3/15 for 0 available seats. #1 cleared at boarding time. |
6/5 NRT-DFW SWU at T-32
Was was on the HND-DFW flight but there was only 1 open seat in J (20 J seats total) with 3 people ahead of me on the wait list. 19 days ago I decided to pay the change fee to switch to the NRT-DFW flight with 7 open seats (37 total J seats). I am glad it paid off. |
