Providing an estimate of 12 month rolling LPs would be helpful on these posts to gauge viability on routes.

Both flights went out with empty seats in F.

Just like BOS-CVG-BOS last Monday morning / Wednesday evening.

This evening’s BOS-ORD on a 319 went out with ~30 on the list and no one clearing. The $141 for the upgrade versus a middle seat in the back was worth it. The up-fare was ~$1,100 as it was the last seat.

I know this has been addressed but it just came up for me and I don't remember how it works. We're about to head to the airport, so I thought I'd ask quickly: Currently I'm first on the upgrade waitlist for a PHX-NYC redeye, and my wife traveling with me is third; there are three available seats so it should work. But shouldn't she be second, because her status is tied to mine?

[For estimated rolling LPs, I finished last year with 291k and currently have 45k; I don't recall what last spring was like, but lighter than this year so far - so maybe around 320k is what I'd estimate.]

JFK-DEL Upgrade Probability

Platinum Pro, using mileage plus copay to upgrade, planning early September. Single person and 777-300, I would assume reasonable chances but don't want to take chances. Any idea on probability?

If you're on the same PNR then yes, you should be next to each other on the list. Otherwise you have to request her as a companion upgrade. Does she have AA status? In any case, they should be able to fix this at the airport.

(Just saw the date, so this advice is now irrelevant, but I'd be curious what happened.)

Yeah it was odd - she has Gold but I don't think that factored in here at all, as we were on the same reservation. We both got the upgrade, but so did the person in between us on the list, so I'm really not sure.

Gotten to the point where I usually buy the sub-$300 offers on ex-PHL,-CLT, etc. transcons or get the mileage upgrade if available. When the paid upgrades start earn LPs, I'll probably go for those more often versus mileage. EXP with ~ 400k LPs and typically number 1 or 2 at gate.

I think AA should give some consideration to PRO and EXP status upgarde fees. If you're GLD, much higher incentive to pay for the upgrade because the complimentary is very unlikely.

4/11

PIT-JFK-BNA

2 on the same reservation: approx 290k LPs

PIT-JFK, both cleared T-100 with J5 open before clearing

JFK-BNA, both cleared T-27 with at least J7 open before clearing

HonkyRed Apr 21, 2024 11:50 am

4/20 OGG to DFW on 787 - tried using SWUs, #2-3, nobody cleared
4/21 DFW to BOS - 1 cleared at T-100, companion cleared at gate (#2 of 3 available spots)

LP 367k

I'm flying from LAX to BDL on Friday morning, August 2. Which routes are more likely to have upgrades available? (I'm EXP with high number of rolling LPs)

LAX-DFW-BDL
LAX-CLT-BDL

I'm assuming there may be more elites on the DFW route?

Crapshoot for both, especially this far out. I wouldn't count on getting an upgrade on any of the routes, however, especially on a Friday in the middle of summer. While you may clear 1 out of 4 legs, I think anything more than that would be lucky.

The pre-COVID almost-guaranteed upgrade rate for EXP is long gone now with dynamic upsells and such.

I agree. I think CLT would provide a slightly higher chance (I almost never clear DFW/LAX now), but if you miss you have a longer leg to deal with, and you have to endure CLT's misery.

I'm EXP, ~220k rolling LP, here's how I'm doing so far this month flying solo:

4/15: ORD-PSP #5, didn't clear
4/16: LAX-ORD, cleared using Miles & Co-pay (needed the 787 bed to able to work the following day)
4/20: ORD-BCN, SWU cleared a week in advance
4/26: LHR-ORD, SWU cleared about 10 days in advance

EXP: ~330K rolling
For today:
TPA-CLT: Cleared T-9
CLT-BOS: #5/35. 0 seats left on entire plane.
Tomorrow:
BOS-MIA, MIA-TPA: Cleared T-100

I have TPA-CLT on Friday. Just passed T-100. Crickets. Same J7 with 8 unassigned seats as yesterday. Normally I fly out of MCO as it is 20 minutes closer, but upgrades have been difficult and the parking situation there has been getting tougher. Decided to try TPA this week.
