upgrade question
Hi I'm an EP (through status pass) with around 90k rolling LPs flying from SFO-CLT on an 11:52 pm redeye on an upcoming Monday night (5/20). I am flying with a companion, there are 4 seats available in First, how likely do you think I'll get upgraded with my companion at T-100 or upgraded in general. My LPs are certainly lower than other EPs however I hope I can still get upgraded on this redeye. Would appreciate any insight especially on this route/day/time or just anything in general, thanks!!

Question regarding using miles to upgrade on a paid domestic AA flight without status... Need to go ALB to southern CA and looking at options:
I've read several pages here and searched several sites, but I still don't understand something. If I find a flight on AA that ExpertFlyer shows has C availability (Example below of ALB-CLT showing C5 on 5/21) and I want to use miles (15,000 + $75) to upgrade to 1st from a paid regular economy fare, will I be confirmed into the upgrade at time of booking if I do this over the phone, since C shows 5? Or does that simply put me on the waitlist with others who have put in for some sort of upgrade, meaning I never have a chance with no status because those 5 will clear at some point up to flight time? I just don't understand if mileage upgrades from paid fares clear immediately if C space is showing? Thanks for helping an AA noob with 100,000 miles and a few paid work flights coming up. Is American selling more upgrade options in 2023/2024? Had a pretty good run in early 2023 with complimentary upgrades (flying out of PHL, EXP for the first time in 2023). Then later in 2023, and now in 2024, I'm getting more "upgrade your flight for $XXX". It seems like since then I'm not getting the free upgrades.
Or is this something normal that I didn't see when I was Platinum/Plat Pro levels. Thanks |

Yes, AA is making a much greater effort to monetize the F cabin, particularly by selling upgrades in the App. You are not imagining things. If you want F, buy F. Or take a chance spinning the upgrade roulette wheel.

More flights, more upgrades.
This week: DEN-PHL, A321, Wednesday, ~12pm: cleared at 26 hours PHL-DCA, CR9, Wednesday, ~6pm: cleared at 100 hours DCA-ORD, A319, Saturday, 10am: cleared at 100 hours. ORD-DEN, 7M8, Saturday, ~12pm: cleared at 100 hours. EXP, somewhere between 250k and 275k rolling LP. |

What is the business class demand like on MIA-SCL, during the (South American) winter months? Will the cabin usually sell out, or do SWUs have a chance at clearing? It's a 787-8, so that already steepens the odds.
AA is selling the cabin at like $8000/600K miles, so revenue management obviously plans on selling the seats... |

Current LPs: about 250,000 DCA-SAV cleared at T-8 hours. Flight was filled 3/9 on a CR7 at T-100 but no upgrade. Inventory dwindled down to 2/9 at T-24 hours. Upgraded overnight. Almost pulled the trigger on the $70 upgrade since it looks like I might have a surplus of Amex dollars this year. SAV-MIA cleared at T-100 hours MIA-DCA no joy. 100% full at T-100 hours |

If you must travel in F then you need to buy it.
