Short-sighted, My company pays for my tickets, I'm a lonely PLT, so if I can get lie flat seat for $140 on a 2.5 hour flight, I'll take it. AA wants to monetize the FF program, let them.

Why in the world does one need a life flat seat on a 2.5 hour flight?

ORD-RDU, been sitting at $70 or something for the past week, but has been J7. No interest in spending money out of pocket, have an entire exit row to myself. Pretty much have given up on UGs until it goes to airport and I can see my chances.

Some recent data points this month for my EXP UGs with about 275K rolling LPs:

1. Monday, 3/4: LAX-EWR on AS 10:45 a.m. departure: Cleared at T-25
2. Thursday, 3/7: EWR-LAX on AS 7:59 p.m. departure: Cleared at T-120
3. Tuesday, 3/12: LAX-MIA on AA 6:00 a.m. departure on 777-200: Died at #4 on the UG list with only one seat avail.
4. Thursday, 3/14: MIA-LAX on AA 7:45 p.m. departure on 777-200: Died at #3 on the list with only one seat avail. I requested a miles/copay UG but still no luck. I was hoping #1 and #2 were a no-split due to having the same last name but the husband gave his wife the UG and ended up next to me in the the premium economy cabin. He was a CK.

NEXT UP: LAX-OMA on Monday, 3/18. About 48 hours out and still no UG. The flight only has one seat left for sale, but First is fairly open with 7 seats left and they UG app offer is $146.00.

MIA LAX on the 772/77W often has multiple independent CKs and even for us it's a struggle to get upgraded on these flights

Sunday 3/17

AA 2811
LAX-DFW
777-300ER

I was 12 out of 41 for 25 seats.

All 25 of us were upgraded 40 minutes before the flight. Boarding is delayed right now due to the flight crew members being stuck in traffic outside the airport. I was not expecting an upgrade on this flight; I will take it. ExPlat with ~220K LP.

Wow MER, E. That’s shocking how it was J0. But, how did no one get upgraded before the flight? Why did AA just wait and have everyone waitlisted. They used to be way more lenient on upgrading earlier, but now I see them always holding off.

If I had to guess, it was a last minute equipment swap from a 777-200 to the 777-300, which has significantly more seats sold as business (including the 8 first class seats).

thunderdeacon Mar 17, 2024 11:00 am

Now that I think about it, it was originally on a 777-200. This was an expensive equipment change; 25 F seats that they were not able to monetize. Also there are 65 on the standby list, so I am guessing there were some IDB's after the swap. I can't imagine there are many empty seats on other flights today for reaccommodation.

Seeing decent C space around Easter weekend to and from Europe.

Cleared MIA-BCN and LHR-DFW. also cleared DFW-FRA, but changed it to the BCN flight.

03/09/2024 - DFW-CDG - #3 on the list (575k LPs), no one cleared
03/18/2024 - DFW-CDG - #1 on the list, no seats available, upgraded to PE right before boarding.

03/31/2024 - DFW-FCO - cleared approximately 25 days in advance. Looking forward to that.

Ouch. Should probably resign myself to MCE for my DFW-CDG in early June.
C0 across the board for every flight to Europe that I look at.

I would highly recommend you consider PE if the cost isn't too bad. Regular Y/MCE is beyond pAAinful.
