SEA-ORD AA2398 tomorrow

8 seats have been available in F with a $194 upgrade offer for weeks. I've been surprised that people aren't buying the upgrade at that price as there are still 7 available in F as of today. Hoping I get the upgrade and it clears in the next few hours. Somewhat surprised it didn't clear sooner... but I also understand how those dynamics have changed.

Just got confirmed at about T27.

So on a flight today, I got upgraded a few days ago (280K LPs)
Wife (260K) had same fare class ticket (BE). In the app, she was showing as Upgrade Requested.
But this morning, she was not showing on the upgrade list (through app). Then after she checked in through the app, she showed up as 5th on the list. Yet the guy next to me stated he cleared yesterday as a platinum.

Would anyone be able to explain why?

Unchecked-in pax do not show on the in-app upgrade waitlist regardless of fare or status btw.

Glosses over the fact that a Platinum cleared, while an EXP and 4(?) others were on the list. Unless, the Plat passenger really meant they paid to clear, which could have been the case. I've had some funky things happen on the UG list, but hard to really prove or argue.

Definitely did not pay for upgrade. He was surprised he got cleared at all, especially in advance.

Traveling domestic. Does one have to request upgrade or does the system automatically puts you on an upgrade list? I am AA platinum for the first time. 3 passengers traveling together -I am AA platinum, spouse is Qatar Silver, Child - no status.

Domestic complimentary upgrades are auto requested. However as an elite you can upgrade only one companion, so when there are more than 2 pax on a PNR the upgrades are not requested (for anyone, including yourself) as the system doesn't know which companion to upgrade.

So in this case if you want to upgrade, you need to call AA and split your reservation into you + whichever pax you want to try to upgrade, and the other pax on a separate reservation.

During the past week. Last Saturday MIA/DFW 321ceo (5:18AM departure) paid $140 for an upgrade, upgrade list rolling off the board no one cleared-a 5:18AM flight mind you, DFW/PHX 321neo paid $140 for an upgrade, 2 people cleared at the gate including a dead head pilot (that sat next to me), PHX/SBA A319 paid $119 for an upgrade, no one cleared. Last Tuesday SBA/PHX CR700 paid $54 for an upgrade, one person cleared at the gate, PHX/TUS 737 wasted $49 on an upgrade, 3 people cleared at the gate. Yesterday Thursday TUS/PHX paid $54 for an upgrade, couple pages of upgrades no one cleared, PHX/MIA 321 neo sprung for $272 for an upgrade, endless list no one cleared.

Wow, so in one week you spent $828 for upgrades...I think you are the reason AA started doing this!

With how easy for people who don't fly to get EP, this is the best revenge My company pays for the ticket, and then I pay for the upgrade.

My company pays for the ticket, and I pay for the upgrade for any flight over 2 hours. Since anyone can be EP these with CC spend, I'll pay $800 to sit up front, while those EP walk to coach.
