1/3 AA1304 DFW-AUS: cleared at T-48
1/20 AA3274 AUS-EGE: cleared at T-27. The flight was J3 prior to T-27, then became J2 after I got the upgrade. |
I was wondering abour the cash buy upgrades and how it works if I have both myself & my Mom with me on the same PNR... If I get offered a buy up can I choose to only accept it for 1 of us? My thinking was take the buy up for her then keep myself in Y and hope for the comp upgrade.
This is for LAX-MIA and I know hub to hub isnt the best chance but hoping with it being a random Tuesday in February and on the 772 with so many seats that it may work. Currently the Main cabin price is $90 so thats a really great deal. I mean even if we had to fly in Y together the 2-4-2 PE seats which I think I can select for free wouldnt be horrible. However, I just wanted to know if the buy up will offer me the option to accept it for just her or is required we both take it? I guess I can buy the tickets separately if need be but easier on 1 PNR. Also, any data points for what the offer may be? The actual outright buy for J is $834 which also isnt horrible. |

I totally sympathize with wanting to get mom a J seat on a xcountry. I've flown J LAX-MIA about a half-dozen times (usually on red-eyes). But if it's a daytime flight, PE is hardly a hardship.
However, do you know about the cash buy up offer- can I choose it only for her and not me and I can wait and try for the comp upgrade? Or do I need to buy the tickets separtely to do this? I also forgot to mention that its basic economy for the $90 which I've never done so just was wondering while you cant change your ticket you can still buy up on the upgrade right? |

Yes for $90 thats really good and the PE seats with just the 2 together would be nice.

But as I mentioned in the other thread I do not believe you will get the buy up upgrade offers if purchasing BE. |
Debating choosing 2x SWU as a reward, but trying to figure out if there's any reasonable chance of them clearing.
The only firm-ish plans I have for AA long haul this year is CLT-LHR, maybe in May or maybe in September. EXP ~250k LP. I haven't watched it like a hawk, but in general any time I've looked at CLT-LHR C space it's always been zero. 😅 And close-in seat availability even now in January, looking at this Thursday is J1 or J2. I'd have to think it wouldn't be any better in higher demand months trying to snag a last-minute seat. If it's a really slim chance I won't bother with SWU and will figure out a different strategy. |
Question - if we take an in app upgrade but then try to change our flight, will the J class stick on the new flight (pending availability)?
I see that my current routing of A-B-C is available at an earlier time but the B-C leg (which I'm considering upgrading) has a significantly lower J inventory for the earlier flight (so I imagine the upgrade cost will be higher) so I wanted to upgrade first and then change. |
Wife and I went 0 for 1 on Saturday WLM to CLT - as Platinum, we were #'s 6&7 at the airport where 1 cleared. Was an A319, so only 8 FC seats available at all, and only a 45 minute flight, so not a big deal at all. I booked this trip before I had status and the TLH -> CLT, CLT -> TLH were on ERJ145 with no first seats on them.
That puts me at 1 for 5 overall since 1st flight with status in December (the 1 I was gold at the time) |
AA3067 LAX-SFO: Plat with rolling 100k LP, waitlisted 11/20 at T-1 with 2 F seats remaining 😅

Yesterday AA2524, TPA-DCA, #2 on list out of 18. Only cleared one.
Waiting for AA544, DCA-TPA now- #5 out of 28. 0 seats left. 260K+ LPs. |
yesterday clt-bos I was 5 out of 18 for 0 seats. 5 days ago it was half full and AA was selling F for $65 so that answers that. AAparently AA will take a kettle's 65 bucks vs upgrading a 275 LP exp any day! lol

1/28 - DCA to DAY - 1 EXP and 3 GLD on one PNR. All four cleared at T-100

AA or BA ORD to LHR...bwhich for best chances for paid upgrade?
I would like your opinions on what airline would have the best chance of Paid upgrade from PE to Business?
I would also like to get an idea of which one would be more reasonable. I am flying from Chicago to London Mid March.. Looking at ExpertFlyer there seems to be ample inventory as of today on AA or BA. I also am One World Emerald...Iberia Platino.... I dont know if that makes a difference or not. |
