EXP $250K YTD Spend. Last night DFW/MIA 788. Number 14 on the list, think one cleared. Over 110 names on the upgrade list. Originally I had a PE seat, got bounced of out of that and put way back into Y, saw it when I logged into look at the upgrade list and luckily there was another PE seat open. New Years AM SFO/PHX and PHX/DFW, cleared at T-100, E175 and 321neo, respectively. So if you want to guarantee an upgrade as an EXP fly at 5:50AM on New Years Day on a 175.

JFK-SFO on a Friday morning. Booked T-20 hours, ended up 2/8 on the upgrade list (I’m plat with ~90k LP). Upgrade didn’t clear, talked to gate agent about 10mins before boarding and she upgraded me as well as the guy ahead of me on the list. Nobody else got upgraded according to the app.
Y was full with $1100 travel credit offer during check in. C showed 4 seats available, F was empty. |
They'd pay someone $1100 before upgrading folks? Wow.

Good morning hive mind. Flying AUS-MIA-GCM. I'm Exec Plat, partner is Alaska 100k. We're booked on the same itinerary, award ticket. Her AA loyalty number (no status) is on her profile.
Any way to optimize this? Should I switch her loyalty over to Alaska? Break up the PNR? Is it a thing to call in within the 100h window and ask them to clear the (complimentary) upgrades? Thank you |

If you have Exec Plat and are in the same reservation, you will keep your Exec Plat priority. As long as it is just one companion, then you both get Exec Plat upgrade status. Exec Plat has higher priority than 100k, so I'd just keep it. She will still board with Group 1, get MCE if not upgraded (based on avail.), 3 priority bags, etc. If she wants the miles on her Alaska account, you could switch it over to Alaska, but it might mess up your upgrade priority. Could be solved by a quick phone call, chat, or at the airport. YMMV on that part though.

14 as a $250k EXP? That is crazy. I can't believe 110 status members on a 788.

Thank you Jackls! We got MCE seats at booking. Its an award ticket so I guess I'll leave it with her AA loyalty for now.

EXP here, flying out of East Coast, generally.
I have a SWU expiring in several days and I have a couple questions: If I get a confirmed upgrade for a flight in the future, can I cancel that flight and transfer the SWU to a new flight. I suspect the answer is no. Do I have to have a confirmed upgrade by expiration date, or can I just get on the wait list? To what destinations are people finding good value for their upgrade, AND availability to actually book in advance. Obviously, an international wide body would be great value but I don't really see availability. Like, if I wanted to go to Europe later this Spring or Summer, are there routes that are sometime more available in advance? Does it seem anyone has any luck getting confirmed upgrade space when making a reservation to Asia? |

I believe the hard and fast rule is you must *apply* your SWU to a flight reservation before it expires. Doesn't matter how far in the future the flight is but must be applied no later than the expiration date. At least that's what I remember being in a similar predicament a year ago.

For example, if I apply a SWU (expiring in Jan 2024) to a flight in November 2024, can I switch that SWU to a flight in July 2024 if a SWU is available for that flight? |

Assuming you're talking about doing this at a later date after the SWU has expired, then no, that is not possible.
Anyone have any suggestions on routes from the US to Europe that might have SWU open for Spring right now? |
