4/28 AA 2246 DFW-JFK 738: Nothing. Boston based crew. Bit a of a strange flight, with one crew member keeping on their leather jacket and headphones (around their neck) for entire flight, whilst serving First class, the other crew member worked her socks off.

(Deleted my own long story of 4/4 PDB)
Bottom line, if you want one, ask for one. It's not DYKWIA if you ask nicely, and preface with "if time allows". My experience has been generally positive. Remember though, sometimes discretion is best! |
Full PDB + excellent service on AA 1426 (BOS => {PHX) Complemented the FA accordingly.
ps - the short ribs were good! |
Full PDB* with a smile on 1638 CHS-DFW on 10May. Added to what was probably the best service i've had in years. FEBOneo, hand towel, warm nuts, numerous trips though the cabin, personal service. Just by looks, the F FA was probably senior, and she followed the manual to perfection. 'Twas a wonderful experience.
*Alas, no Woodford, but that's for another thread. |
4486 DCA -JFK yesterday (Republic Airways) - no PDB at the gate, but we went on ATC hold on the tarmac and the FA surprisingly sprang into action offering full PDB.
|
Happened to me last year once but again today. no PDB in F on JFK-SFO offered. Sought out J FA who was offering in cabin behind me and who gave water and champagne to F folks after I mentioned I wanted a water.
Unfortunately indicative of service throughout the flight. Crew sharing a set of AirPods. |
During the past week. MIA/LGA A321 neo OJ and Water but morning flight and at least the beverages were cold and good inflight service. LGA/YYZ E175 Republic, 5 paxs in F useless FA couldn't be bothered. In flight was a very quick drink service then she ran in the back and hid for the remainder of the flight. YYZ/LGA E175 PBDs as soon as you sat down. LGA/DCA 319 PDBs although the FA struggled to get 8 drinks served before door was closed. DCA/MIA 738 no PDBs, plenty of time to get it done.

2 May AA701 CLT->DFW in F - full PDB, deftly done by FA who got orders in between crowds of people coming on to board the back of the plane and served drinks with plenty of time before takeoff.
2 May AA20 DFW->LHR (red eye) in international Flagship First - offered pre-poured water, OJ, prosecco; full PDB on request 10 May AA101 LHR->JFK in international Flagship First - offered pre-poured water, OJ, prosecco; full PDB on request 10 May AA2624 JFK->CLT in F - full PDB, orders taken from all 16 F pax through mouthing or gesturing to the FA who was in front of row 1 by the bulkhead and avoiding the cluster of pax trying to get into the back; amazingly, he seemed to get all of the orders correct and delivered to the pax; impressive, and done with enough time to enjoy the drinks before glasses were collected. This flight featured groups 2-9 being asked to board in rapid succession almost immediately after group 1 was called, and the PDB orders were not taken until the zerg rush was on for Y in the cabin. PDB served in glasses on all flights. Woodford available on all flights as well (Glenlivet 15 on the international F flights too), though as mentioned above this is for another thread. In the last year I was previously maybe 50% on PDB in domestic F prior to this trip, and about 80% of those were served in plastic cups. |

Great report, thank you - but I'm confused about this part. Do you mean you were in domestic F but seated in rows 1-2 on a 77W?

5/5 AA465 CLE-->CLT - Full PDB, but I fell asleep for the remainder of the flight. I hear it was good though!
5/5 AA2475 CLT-->STL - Full PDB, fell asleep once we got in the air. Funny coincidence, this was on the same metal and the same FA; she was impressed I was able to sleep so much on both flights! |

To piggy-back off of skylady, when we do PDBs, it's simply that, a PRE-DEPARTURE beverage. The airline has been very adamant (meaning FAA is breathing down the airlines neck) in picking up the PDB service items prior to door closure, or before taxi movement. Our Frequent flyers know this, however, we are getting a LOT of first-time F/C pax who don't understand that items MUST be picked up and they haven't even touched their beverage.
Yes, many years ago, items were kept just prior to take-off, or coats handed back upon landing...however, FAs were injured while taxiing from results of sudden stops, or fast taxi and quick turns, so the FAA has buckled down on insisting FAs are only to be up during taxi movements for safety related duties...i.e. Safety checks, and ensuring service items are picked up. What we could not do is break the bar seals on the ground because of Customs as all the alcohol is bonded (duty and tax free) except the Pre Flight Champagne. Your explanation makes this all understandable but it has to be said that this has been going on since forever - long before all this - and the reason was that people were not being paid for it and I have some sympathy with that. |
New one: first row of economy got PBDs (FA passed out the FC leftovers).

Had an interesting experience a few days ago (GRI-DFW). The FA asks each person in F if they would like a cup of water. I was hoping for some OJ, but didn't think it was going to be possible so I declined the offer of water. I hear someone a row or two back say, "Diet Coke," and the FA says, "Oh, Diet Coke....OK." I guess I could have asked for an OJ, but she wasn't going to be happy about it!
