My unsolicited two cents - As noted above, it's well documented that people have very different tolerances; but more importantly, the DUI threshold is (rightly) an entirely different and more conservative standard than drinking while settled into your airplane seat.

Yes and as plenty of passengers who exceed the DUI threshold drive home from the airport, that’s a problem.

THAT is definitely a problem. But I don't think the solution there is for FAs to try not to serve to over the DUI limit; that reasoning would suggest that everyone (waiters and bartenders included) should avoid serving over the DUI limit as people will drive home from the restaurant/bar.

On the other hand, there are dram shop laws which prohibit serving to excessively intoxicated individuals who are visibly impaired; I suspect carriers are exempt due to airline deregulation and the fact that dram laws are passed at the state level, but it I agree that it would be a good idea for FAs to apply that standard for serving. And the longer term solution (if policymakers actually wanted to address this issue meaningfully) would be better public transportation to airports and not relegating rideshare pickups off to a satellite parking lot in Siberia.

Can we agree that its better for the FAs to serve early (as in a pre-departure beverage or three) than to make up for the lack of a PDB until the end of the flight?

Last week PHX/FLG FA (Skywest) FA chased me to my seat with a cocktail napkin in her hand asking for my PDB choice. Despite a 25 minute flight 2 refills and 2 rounds of the snack basked in air (CR700).

GJT-DFW Envoy E175 - No PDB and no reason why. Plane arrived at the gate early, boarding was leisurely, and we departed early. Good service in the air though!

2/4 AA 343 RDU-LAX 321NEO: Full PDB
2/4 AA 2961 LAX-PHX 321NEO: This was weird. The FA had a tray of juices (OJ, Cranberry, Tomato and Apple) and also offered water and accommodated other requests. All the pre-poured juices seemed like a waste.

2/7 AA 4344 RDU-DCA EMB-175: Full PDB

DCA-TYS-DCA (PSA CR7)

PDB both directions. Second round of drinks mid flight. Two passes of the snack basket.

Out of curiosity, what sort of drinks are offered if there’s a “Full PDB”?

Also, more generally, what’s typically on the drinks menu for AA domestic first? (Other than JFK-LAX) I’ve never flown domestic first and I’ve got BOS-PHL-SEA coming up and am wondering what to look forward to.

Full PDB = whatever you want. Water, coffee, beer, wine, mixed drinks etc.

Here's a link which shows which brands they serve.

Guess I am the outlier here. 0 PDB of any kind in all of 2022 on domestic or short international flights. The FAs really seem to struggle on the a321s providing service. I had better luck in 2020 and 2021...

Wow. You all are quite lucky.
Last week:
2/7 DCA-JFK no PDB (Republic)
2/8 JFK-SFO 3-class F yes PDB
2/9 SFO-PHX no PDB
2/9 PHX-OKC no PDB (Skywest - flight attendant kept referring to the airiline as American Express)
I just can't believe there is so much discretion.
How is it that DL can get their flight attendants to put out water bottles and offer a full PDB service too?
Does the AA manual say something like time permitting/if possible while Delta has it as a strict requirement?

Yes, my % has been much lower than many report on here too - though I will say I still have had better luck on AA than DL
