I logged into my Alaska Airlines account randomly, checked "Discount Codes" and was surprised to see a code for the Companion $99 fare.

I have had the card since January but did not expect to get the Companion Fare until next year (after 1 year anniversary of having the card).

The Companion Fare Discount Code in my Alaska account had to be redeemed and used by 21st December of this year.

Companion fare comes with the card when you sign up too

Out of YVR, they are not competitive though. Often you can book two tickets for the price of Alaska, without needing to connect or for much lower rates even with the companion fare

Any chance of applying using a spouse's AM account?

I read a while back they implemented this rule - do you know for sure it is still being enforced? I'm holding 2 cards at the moment.

Yes, 1 card rule is here to stay. I applied for a new card yesterday and was declined right away by the system. A quick call to the credit department at MBNA confirmed that it was indeed because of the new Alaska Airlines rule. Since I already have multiple cards with MBNA, this attempt was a soft inquiry and does not hurt my credit score or history. MBNA was also able to confirm that I could cancel my current cards, wait for 90 days and submit a new application to re-qualify for a new card with 25K bonus. Obviously, this is not nearly as exciting as getting a 100K miles in a span of few days

Did a write up on it yesterday, if anyone is interested - http://travelupdate.boardingarea.com...s-credit-card/

If I cancel my MBNA Best Western card today and re-apply in 1 month, will I still get the welcome bonus?

Thanks for the insight. So the agent told you to wait 90 days? That's not bad.

I wonder if you call the, would the CSR have access to the date you last cancelled the previous AS card?

I cancelled mine's few months ago. I don't remember exactly when. But should be getting close if not over the 3 months mark.

Obviously it would be in my best interest to churn it asap, so....

Based on what the CSR told me, if the last active card on your account was 90 days ago, you should be able to apply and get the 25K bonus. Unfortunately slow churn is the only option now..

Been procrastinating and haven't had chance to call.

But checking page 64 of this thread, I should have cancelled it within few days after Jun 7th. I should be well over the 3 months mark now. Will apply tomorrow and see how it goes.

Luckily there's still the $60 GCR on this card

Been out of the loop for this card for too long. How long does it generally take for it to get approved on your past experience?

Applied on Wednes.

Called the 1-877 number to check status, as usual - doesn't recognize my 10 digit phone number. Talked to an agent today (Fri). Said still being reviewed, and ask me to call back on Tuesday to talk to a credit specialist.

I recall them taking their sweet time - but I was declined, and called in to ask why and then they overturned it after asking me more questions. After that, it took a while to get the card. Then it took me about 5 months to get the credit from GCR. Sigh...

BUT - As soon as I got my points, I redeemed them for a $700CAD plane ticket....sweeeeet....

What is the typical time frame people hold on to these cards for before cancelling? 3 months or 6 months?
