Do you know any example dates? That'd really help me out.

Have a play with Google Flights and, by choosing either Sky Team airlines or KLM itself, you'll be able to see the lowest fares through the calendar.

Need 3800 status miles

I'm almost to gold and figure it's worth it. What's the least expensive way to get 3800 miles within Europe - no long haul.

Alitalia Economy offers the highest amount of miles for low fares; or alternatively you can look at business/first (Garuda is a cool one as posted above) - that will be more expensive but save you quite some time. It may also allow you to avoid staying over at a remote location, which can be expensive.

IST with AF in business = 12k / 700€
two 4 segments trips within europe with AZ in economy = 450€ min

Thanks for the tips all. Am looking at a weekend trip to either Lisbon or Bilbao at the moment, the required miles for a good fare plus a day sightseeing. Not a bad weekend plan

I've done AMS-LGW on Garuda before, works fine. Their website doesn't seem to offer same day return options for some reason.

A business trip got cancelled, and now I'm in need of 4 qualifying flights before the end of the year...

I'm located in AMS, but can also travel from BRU or DUS. Ideally I'd fly four segments on the same day, otherwise my girlfriend will insist on bringing her along

Cheapest I'm seeing is €218 on Dec 19 DUS-AMS-BCN-AMS-DUS, any other viable options I'm missing?

AMS-WAW via CDG on both ways (with 1-night stop-over in WAW) works out roughly € 20 cheaper. There will be hotel expenses involved but at least you can see the place a bit, have a few beers and all without breaking the bank (you can find a 4-star hotel in WAW for less than € 35).

Facing similar problem, I did some research, although I was restricted to weekends only. You can do ZWE-AMS-IST-AMS-ZWE for ~230eur if you don't mind 5 night hours in IST on the last weekend of the year. Or, if you're easy to go, you might opt for ZYR-CDG-MAD-CDG-ZYR tomorrow for ~193eur. Both options involve train segments, and you know...

Be careful with Alitalia!

I recently travelled on what turned out to be an "F" fare, which on the Paris routes maps to a "Light" fare, but on all other European flights is a "Classic" fare that earns at the same level in MillieMiglia as O and L (minimum 350 miles per sector), i.e. above the lowest earning rates of R and G (minimum 250 miles).

However, in Flying Blue, F earns nothing! This, despite its "equivalents" O and L earning 50%, and even the lower G fare earns 50% in Flying Blue.

Which kinda makes sense - it is not in the table of eligible earning fares on Alitalia page of FB partners.
Be also carefull with R - it only earns something on domestic Italian routes, otherwise 0. In general, always consult ITA for a booking class, or even better - book on KL/AF web-site if you don't mind paying extra 10-15 euros. Learned it the hard way on my own.

I faced similar problems with "W" fare on domestic Alitalia flights…
Read http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25854078-post670.html
Finally I will have to take another 4 flights, this time "X" fare which is (not funny but true) cheaper than "W".

BTW, since UX left Flying Blue, it seems that all revenue bucket classes earn miles and segments. (new mileage earning table from 1.12.2015) which means you could start cheap segment runs in spain ...
