In an exhaustive analysis of the incident it would certainly be, for the reasons you stated. In virtually all the news items shared above, which are essentially one paragraph reading "Female passenger's cell phone catches fire", it isn't. And it is hard to imagine gender being reported in news stories of the same style had the passenger in question been male.

Some far more exhaustive stories on cell phone fires on board, for which gender of the passenger is not relevant and not reported:
Cellphone battery catches fire on flight to Atlanta | TheHill
https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/31/us/je...ire/index.html

Stories where the gender of the passenger is relevant or voluntarily disclosed, and reported:

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 replacement phone caught fire on Southwest flight - Oct. 5, 2016

Not hard.
You proved my point, and in the process deflated your own argument. The first two examples you provided which do not include a mention of gender, relate to unattended phones and did not involve bodily injury. One was in a stowed backpack and the other was a battery separate from the phone. Humans were not injured. The two cases providing gender involve a woman who was burnt while using the phone and the other a man who had stored the phone in his pocket The case you are upset about relates to a woman who was burnt while using her phone. One does not need to imagine how a story would be reported involving a male, because there it is in the story referenced : The man was smoking hot.
Gender was an integral part of the story where there were injuries or direct physical damage. You are making a fuss over nothing.

Exclamation

We are wandering a little far afield so let's try and confine the discussion to matters that actually directly relate to the AC incident.

Incident: Canada A333 over Atlantic on Mar 14th 2018, hydraulic failure

Incident: Canada A333 over Atlantic on Mar 14th 2018, hydraulic failure

By Simon Hradecky, created Monday, Mar 19th 2018 21:58Z, last updated Monday, Mar 19th 2018 21:58Z

An Air Canada Airbus A330-300, registration C-GHKR performing flight AC-836 (dep Mar 13th) from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Madrid,SP (Spain) with 214 passengers and 10 crew, was enroute over the Atlantic Ocean about half way into the flight when the crew received indication the pressure of the yellow hydraulic system had dropped to zero. The flight crew worked the related checklists, consulted with maintenance and continued the flight to destination. The flap rate was reduced and the right hand thrust reverser was inoperative. The aircraft landed safely in Madrid.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found a worn seal at a yellow hydraulic pressure manifold supply check valve causing a leak. The valve was reinstalled with new seals.

Uncleared Jazz Q400 take-off roll sparks incursion incident

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...incide-446989/

22 MARCH, 2018 SOURCE: FLIGHT DASHBOARD

Canadian controllers intervened to stop a Jazz Bombardier Q400 from departing Thunder Bay airport without clearance, as a second aircraft prepared to land on an intersecting runway.

The Jazz aircraft had been cleared to position and hold on runway 25 ahead of a flight to Toronto on 9 March, according to the Transportation Safety Board.

But it states that tower controllers saw the turboprop initiating its take-off roll "without a clearance".

The second aircraft, a Wasaya Airways Beech 1900D, had already been cleared to land on runway 12, which intersects the far end of runway 25.

In a bulletin on the incident the safety board says controllers instructed the Q400 to stop, and to exit the runway and wait on taxiway B, owing to an inbound Pilatus PC-12 conducting a medevac flight to runway 25.

I guess edits without history are possible.

Well that edit is probably more accurate and certainly less sensationalist. I was very surprised to read the version quoted by yyz_atc_qq.

The "MTCE" is a far more accurate comment, since there was no fire. Not sure why you would expect any sort of history to be kept. This is 1960's era based technology, as you know, memory was a premium back them so only what ever information is necessary is presented.

Being neither scary, nor near Winnipeg, I wonder if this even qualifies for the thread?
