This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition , 2017 edition, 2018 edition and 2019 edition.
The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues, status or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs, destinations, in-flight travel tech. or anything best discussed elsewhere on FT may be relocated to that forum as this thread isn't meant to import travel topics to this forum that are better discussed on other forums. FT is an amazingly diverse and large community so members are encouraged to seek out all of its resources.
While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

An F-22 crashed the other day, and another crashed a couple of years ago due to pilot error (incorrectly computed takeoff speed led to premature rotation), so even the most modern fighters can crash.
(No idea whether the plane's age played a role in this, or what their accident rate is compared to other acrobatics teams, just pointing out that there are lots of things that can bring an aircraft down)

Met the Snowbirds personally on a few occasions going back to my teens as an Air Cadet. Was always impressed by them - never came across as the stereotypical fighter pilot personality.
Sad days. I have thought for a while that they should have moved on from an airframe design that is over 60 years old, but it might be more reliable. I am not rushing to judgement.
Pretty sure that more crashes and pilot deaths are associated with the CF 18. Less risky maneuvers vs higher numbers, it is hard to know.

If a military aircraft crashes during a public demonstration, we might well wonder how much risk is acceptable for what is ultimately a discretionary activity.

If a military aircraft crashes during operations, it's a tragedy but we also understand that some level of risk is inherent in performing those essential duties.

I never knew that Vancouver's Lions Gate Bridge was built and owned by Ireland's Guinness family. Interesting trivia.

New boarding procedure for Zone 1 :)
I have been home, and have not stepped into an airport and airplane for almost 3 months now. This is the longest stretch for the past 13 years in a row. I miss the lounge, concierge, flight, and sometimes I do miss J meal
I have therefore spent sometime reading and viewing trip reports. Here is an interesting process for boarding Zone 1 ....
Enjoy
He is not a J / F passenger, or elite member. What's zone 1 then?

During acrobatic displays, there is only the pilot with everyone else on the ground. This flight was (should have been) as routine as a YUL to YYZ shuttle and crashes like this are completely random.

Arghhhh the cheese delivery I was going to order is now closed.
Need to find another one. It's going to pale in comparison to my typical Sunday, but I deserve this.
