A330-300 Fleet Overview
AC currently has two configurations of 333:
- Dream Cabin (16 aircraft): Latest 3-class configuration in line with the 787 and 777 fleets (seat map)
- The "Merlions" (2 aircraft): ex-Singapore Airlines 2-class configuration (seat map), which are expected to be reconfigured to the Dream Cabin.
- Important note: the front cabin on these aircraft is an angle-flat product in a 2-2-2 layout that was SQ's "regional" business class. On flights within North America, AC sells it as J; on international flights, they sell it as PY. These aircraft do not have the standard AC PY cabin
- Since October 2023, these aircraft primarily operate YYZ>BOG>YUL triangle, and YUL<>LAX.

I just flew 936 from Brussels to Montreal.
Some observations. Firstly, the 330 is no longer the odd one out or the comfortable plane to fly. It's as bad as anything.
PY is just domestic A320 J. Unlike the rest of AC fleets PY, which is a comparable similar product to domestic J, the PY is exactly the same seat and material (with the same entertainment system. I suspect that decision was made to save costs on an expensive entertainment system overhaul, the A320 seat provided an easy and available option at minimal cost).
By the way, the flight was running very late (1h40). Before we boarded the agents said something like this "Because of the late running of the service, we're going to board from the back forwards, we now invite passengers in zones 4 and 5 to come forward for pre-boarding".
I laughed pretty hard and wondered what the flyertalk crowd would make of that. I'm assuming it's not company policy

But the real difference is in Y. It's the only long haul plane in the fleet that has not gone to a slaveship/sardine can configuration.

That's my bad then. I only saw them walking on the plane and off, and my thoughts were "wow, they've just taken seats from the 320". If that's not what they've done then oops.
As for density, pitch is poor now and no different to any other aircraft AC flies. Yes you get a little extra width over something else, but I'm not celebrating 1 inch extra wide as proof this plane is not HD.

What do you mean by this? AC tightened the pitch in Y? My understanding from this thread is that Y was entirely untouched and that the J pods didn't even receive a deep clean. How did the pitch change to match "any other aircraft AC flies"?

interesting all over the news today is SHOCK at CX for now deep cleaning the cabin once ever 14 days.
It would be amazing if AC cleaned a cabin once every month.

Y was not untouched. They added two rows, thereby reducing pitch.

I used a poor choice of words in my previous post... by "untouched" I meant the existing Y seats, not the Y cabin as a whole.
Thanks ^

I seem to recall that when introducing PY in what used to be the back J cabin, there was space left for some Y rows.

Having worked the reconfigured aircraft twice, that was my impression. The former "B" Cabin was occupied by 4 rows of J (10-13), add to that the removal of cupboards, a lavatory and the rear facing galley complex at L2/R2 - seems reasonable that the former space now occupies 3 rows of PY plus the added 2 rows of Y. The current Y cabin does not appear or feel to have been tightened up.

How much longer is AC planning on keeping the 333s around?
I guess not too long since the J seats are not getting updated to the new ones and the Y cabin is not changing into a HD config, but I'm just curious if AC ever released a rough time frame.
