I do not have enough posts to update the wiki. Could someone add this information? From AP 5/8/2015

YEG-KUL 13301
YEG-HKG 9113
YEG-SIN 11377
YEG-PNH 12298
YEG-BKK 10382
YYZ-BKK 11905
YYZ-HKG 10957

I booked YEG-YYZ-LHR-FRA-BKK-PNH.

Also what do the cs and qs mean?

Thank you, I updated it for you. YYZ-BKK is slightly higher in yours

I am not sure what CS or QS mean either. I think Q is for Quoted as in quoted by AP agent

I got a couple of revised quotes which differ from the amounts I previously reported shortly after the routing rules changeover:

YYC-BKK - 10,557
YYZ-BKK - 11,955

I was able to book YYZ-ORD-NRT,HND-BKK-MUC-AMS-VIE-FRA-ORD-YYZ which comes in slightly lower than the MPM at 11,554

So I've been playing around with some of the allowable MPMs quoted in this thread, vs. the shortest-flyable route I can find on any *A airline (so, for example, I don't accept the FRA-NRT routing which LH will sell, but which is mostly flown on QR metal).

What I'm finding is that "new MPM" is basically a multiplier of 1.3-1.4 against the shortest flyable route, with a 5-10% higher allowance for non-hub locations like YEG.

This is utterly non-scientific, and assumes all MPMs submitted to this thread are actual, so take it with a big ol' handful of salt,

But, if you're looking at an itinerary that comes to 1.6x shortest-flyable, you probably don't need to waste your time calling it in, and if you're looking at 1.2x, you're probably pretty safe.

IF these numbers are any kind of accurate, and that's a big IF, it suggests that there is no fixed multiplier; for example, MPM vs. direct YVR-HKG and direct YYZ-HKG come in at different multiples.

Have a look:

YVR-HKG: SF = YVR-HKG @ 6,380, MPM = 8,381 = 1.31

YYZ-HKG: SF = YYZ-HKG @ 7,806, MPM = 10,957 = 1.40

YYZ-NRT: SF = YYZ-NRT @ 6,407, MPM = 9,049 = 1.41

YYZ-BKK: SF = YYZ-HKG-BKK @ 8,856, MPM = 11,955 = 1.35

YEG-SIN: SF = YEG-YVR-HKG-SIN @ 8,479, MPM = 11,377 = 1.34

YEG-KUL: SF = YEG-YVR-HKG-KUL @ 8,465, MPM = 13,301 = 1.57

YUL-DPS: SF = YUL-YYZ-TPE-DPS @ 11,077, MPM = 16,240 = 1.47

YUL-AMS: SF = YUL-FRA-AMS @ 3,869, MPM = 6,075 = 1.57

YOW-AMS: SF = YOW-YYZ-AMS @ 3,952, MPM = 6,230 = 1.58

I think the closer you are, the higher the psuedo MPM gets. It penalizes the super long Asia via Europe routings and rewards TATL and intra-region routings.

Has anyone ever had an agent hang up on them when they ask for the MPM of a city pair? The first time it happened I thought it was an accident, but now that it has happened a second time I am starting to think they don't like that question.

Not so clearly. But I had different agents saying that the MPM was, depending on the agent, between 3600 miles and 6300 miles for the exact same routing.

Likely one quoted the ticketed point mileage (TPM) which is the shortest distance between two city pairs and another quoted you the MPM (larger number).

How does YEG-SIN YEG-KUL have almost 2000 difference when they sit 200 a part??

my guess is SIN is a bigger hub than KUL, so they account for a person needing to make connections to get to KUL (like going to SIN first) vs being able to get to SIN directly from most major cities in the world.

That and mpm will always be greatest when travelling between a non star hub to a non star hub.

For reference, the following routing was accepted:

YYZ-ORD-FRA-HND-BKK-SIN-DPS (15,376 miles)

DPS-SIN-HKG-PEK-ICN-FRA-YYZ (14,305 miles)

Outbound would have been way over MPM5.

Wow!

Also got accepted with a MEL-SIN-TPE-SEA-YVR-SFO-YYZ routing (15,001 mi),
which would also have been way over 5M.

Wow, amazing, let's visualize them
I know nonstop MPM is not meaningful, but it's just a comparison

http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=YYZ-DPS...ND-BKK-SIN-DPS
+55% over nonstop

http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=DPS-YYZ...EK-ICN-FRA-YYZ
+39% over nonstop. Surprised you could come back over Atlantic again

http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=MEL-YYZ...EA-YVR-SFO-YYZ
+49% over nonstop

Not sure whether this question is more appropriate here, or in jerry's saving money on Europe redemption thread, but here it goes.

Trying to minimize YQ on a reward to BRU for next week, and have managed to find availability on YYZ-(AC)-BOS(LX)-ZRH(LX)-BRU on a segment by segment basis. When I do search YYZ-BRU on the AE site, I don't see this option. Before I spend hours on hold with an agent, anyone know if I'm exceeding MPM here? I can get BOS-ZRH-BRU to show on the website, best off to just book that an go revenue YYZ/YTZ -BOS?

Thanks in advance,

J
