I booked 7K on the refurbished 777 and I had to agree to the exit row questionnaire. Anyone know how this can be an exit row now?

CX beginning March is adding 3x weekly frequencies on the A350-900 YVRHKG (now 17x/week). Interesting to see them expanding against AC's 450 seat 77Ws.

I believe this is the first example of another carrier increasing capacity on any route competing against the 777HD?

Well... A battle of good vs evil, light vs dark.

Please lord let the stupid consumers will realize CX Y is far superior than the garbage Y on AC 777HD.. Maybe I will even take out some Google Ads advertise that. Even taking one consumer away from AC is a victory.

Maybe CX will decide whether to become evil with 10 Abreast 777 or not based off competition performance vs AC on this route. They are already testing HD seats much to my disappointment.

I hope my thesis is right.. price is not everything in the long term and once Oil price comes back these carriers would find themselves choking on all of this extra capacity.

CX going 10-abreast 777 is inevitable, just get used to that now. Airlines worldwide switching to 10-abreast have all done the math and it makes sense, Y travellers are cheap.

But the A350's fuel burn probably allows it to have a similar CASM to AC's 77W which is why it's on the route. And luckily for us 3*+ airlines cannot seriously consider 10-abreast A350s to be an option. That would be as unpopular as the few 8-abreast 767s/9-abreast A330s flying around.

The A350 is a consumers best friend vs 787/777. Hopefully CX deploys them to more North American destinations.

Hopefully YYZ also..
Atleast now I have the choice of JAL 787 via NRT or CX A350 via HKG on my way to PEK or PVG next summer. So I am somewhat happy.

And the more airlines that go 10 abreast, the harder it is for the remaining ones to holdout and still compete.

777X will put an end to this debate as it will support 10 abreast with 18" seat width.

Funny you mention that

A fellow AC FTer just shared this fantastic bit of today's news:

"Cathay Pacific boosts frequency of Vancouver to Hong Kong flights"

QUOTES:

"Cathay Pacific announced today that it will increase its weekly flights from YVR to Hong Kong International Airport from 14 flights two flights per day to 17 flights. Altogether, this represents an additional 87,360 seats into YVR.

The frequency increase will begin in April 2017 and utilize the new state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which features....."

Full article here

So, shall the speculation begin...will AC make changes or is the 77 HD the only way to serve that route?

But what can they change it into?
Add a 789 or 788? Meh....

Do keep in mind China Eastern added two times daily out of YVR this summer and all AC did was making 788 to 777HD

I'm eagerly waiting for CX to send their 359s to YYZ as well.

Have to fly to Europe in a few weeks. Since I've now hit Gold on United, I thought I'd give AC a shot again as I'm not scrambling for qualifying miles.

However, as soon as as I saw the YVR-LHR route was the High-Density bird I booked United instead, even though I have a stop along the way.

Increased frequency would be great. how is the A359 config? How does it compare to AC's 777HD or 788/789? I honestly haven't paid attention to the CX A359.

32 pitch plus 18 inch width seat that offers a much better seatback design that what AC has... which is 31 pitch(30?) with 17 or 17.3 inch width
