Hmm good options to know for sure. Do the other airports in NZ have good options for going internationally? Should I be considering CHC/WLG/ZQN or do they not really open more J options?

Did you book the first trip via the phone or online?
ORD-TPE-SIN-AKL is 14,740 miles and it exceeds the MPM of 13,124 (per website javascript, only bookable online now).
I have always tried to look for a way through SIN for AKL/WLG but never succeeded.

ZQN is only served by NZ, as far as *A goes. And NZ's narrowbody product is an LCC all-Y product.

SQ and NZ have some SIN-CHC service. SQ does WLG as a tag on to one of their MEL flights.

Whether that opens up much more availability than AKL, I don't know, but it's something.

I booked both itineraries over the phone. I knew I was over mpm as well but the agent didnt mention it!

I succeeded too! Thanks for the tip. Their systems are definitely in a transition phase and it is unclear what can or cannot be booked. Stark difference than the complaints about reduced MPM5 a couple days ago.

I finally booked this itinerary for family of 5 in business for next year:

yyz-lis (stopover)
lis-zrh-bkk-han (dest)
han-bkk-icn-lax-yyz

I got all segments in biz except bkk-icn. Aeroplan phone agent said there were only 3 seats even though the Aeroplan website/app indicated 5. So, I booked 3 in biz and 2 in Y. Today, I see that there are still 2 biz seats in Aeroplan app as well as in the United MileagePlus app (here it says 2 tickets left at this price). Called in to ask the agent to upgrade but was told that even though she sees the availability on the website, she gets an error when trying to book... Does anyone have any suggestions?

There is no solution, I booked mine a few day back, a lot of phantoms, one single leg not available, I may need to choose a different route, with a family of 4 tickets required, took me 3 hours to finish 4 different PNRs, some legs have either 3, 2 or 1 business seats available, the more complex your itinerary get into, the more time you need to spend with Aeroplan agents to search for availabilities. Good luck.

YYZ-IST mpm is 9468.
GCM shows YYZ-CAI-AMM-IST as 6,812.
I checked YYZ-CAI-IST-YYZ in the multi-city reward and it was valid. So that route should be fine.

mRTW routing rules?

I want to book this itinerary: YHZ-YUL-IST-FRA-BKK-SYD (dest) SYD-AUH-CDG(stop)-ZRH-YUL-YHZ
My outbound is just under the MPM but I wonder if I am allowed to go through IST to get to FRA. I can obviously go via Europe but I want to fly TK.

I have been trying to find the nitty-gritty routing rules, but I have had some problems with routing in the past where I made changes to my booking and the new agent said there were certain directions I couldn't go and I can't remember what they were. Any help/advice would be great. Thanks!

If it's under MPM you can.

Thanks so much for the clarification. I just have one more question. I am trying to search for CGD-ZRH and it will only show me Lufthansa flights. If I choose CDG-LIS or CDG-BRU it shows availability for other partners. Is there some rule that I don't know about? I checked Expert Flyer for 2 weeks and it shows no availability.

Probably because LX doesn't fly to Changde!

I kid, but there's no rule, it might just not be available for those days. Did you check far out? a good idea would be e.g. UA's calendar search because it allows non-stop calendar searches, then search for the days with availability on AP.
