With the links in post 1 (from 2008) now being redundant due to aircraft changes and QF software changes the wiki has been established. Please add relevant information.

There is a cowling but it is well forward - you'd really only have an issue if 190cm+ in height.

i would probably move out of 56C. There is nothing remarkable about that seat, and everything that can be unremarkable (standard, limited legroom, and when the person in front reclines, inconvenience having to get up each time your neighbours want to access the aisle.

66D is a great bulkhead seat - almost as much legroom as 48A but without the exit row congregation of passengers stretching etc.
Only problem is very rarely some PAX try to cut in front of 66D/E/F/G going from one aisle to another - there's almost (but not quite) enough room for that.

Flying SFO-SYD in March. Have 3A,3B...I see that row 15 is available in the upper deck. It seems like some people prefer upper deck and some the nose. Never flown with Qantas before. Would appreciate recommendations. Also any chance that row 1 would open up?(I read upthread that this is reserved for elites).

If you have never traveled upper deck on a 747 it's fun for the first time. Otherwise, much more spacious downstairs. 3AB are good seats. Look out for rows more forward at ~80 hours prior to departure when unallocated seats tend to become available.

Thank you! We have flown in the upper deck on Cathay and were not impressed, but I'm sure that may be totally different.
Are the seats themselves the same in the main business cabin and in the upper deck? I had read a review which claimed that the nicer seats were above.

I would rate Cathay Pacific upper deck better than QF, so if you didn't like CX, you probably won't enjoy QF (the only real difference being that seats are in pairs on QF and single on CX).

3E/F are better seats the 3A/B IMHO if you can get them. They have personal storage compartments & direct aisle access for both seats whereas 1/2/3-A/B/J/K do not.

Mrs. SFO777 and I are on QF8, the DFW-SYD A380 Christmas week in a virtually empty F cabin, F9 and only one other seat assigned. We have 2A and 3A and the interloper has 4A. Assuming that the cabin is indeed 3/12 and remains 3/12, any reason not to consider moving to K seats, with F seats used as our beds? With EF showing 9s across the board, there seems little risk of oversold op-ups. Does QF let non-revs book/sit in F? Would rather stay in our A seats if the cabin starts to fill up in the final day or at the gate.

It is possible the cabin could fill up in the space between now and travel. I'd reassess your seating options only on the day of departure and again at check-in.
