The fact that you felt you needed two lengthy telephone calls to discuss luggage in which you made the telephonists look up their policies indicates that both you and VA knew there was an issue with what you were intending to do. Most of us would simply have looked at the carrier's website for information on luggage allowances.

Once previously - the second time you mentioned these phone calls (suspiciously late in the thread, I might add) it was only to talk about checked baggage.
But the upshot of your point is that they didn't mention a weight limit so you assumed there was no weight limit? Surely anyone who has flown more than twice is aware that there is a luggage weight limit when you fly.

I have done. I have pointed to specific sections of the VA website that cover both of your complaints. This section of the website is highlighted in the booking confirmations that VA issues to their customers. If you didn't get this, then try taking it up with the third party who sold you the tickets.

As I've said numerous times previously I fly at least 1 to 2 times per week in the domestic US and never once over the course of the past 10 years has there ever been a mention of weight restriction for a carry-on baggage. Of course I suppose things are different with the low-end foreign low-cost carriers that you all are so fond of.
Singapore Airlines - http://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/tr...ge-allowances/
Cathay Pacific - http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_A...n-baggage.html

Malaysia Airlines - http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/au/e...d-baggage.html

All Skytrax 5 Star rated airlines - http://www.airlinequality.com/StarRanking/5star.htm - have cabin baggage weight restrictions, Malaysia, Qatar, Cathay and Singapore 7kg and ANA, Asiana and Hainan 10kg.
If you want to do yourself out of 5 star rated airlines, so be it.

Any organisation, airline or otherwise, that discourages the consumption of that revolting pale-brown coloured liquid that Starbucks alleges is coffee can only be congratulated and encouraged. Those early Merkins were a couple of hundred years too early when they dumped tea down the New York sewer system, or whatever it was that they did with it. If it happened today, they'd be heading for Seattle and doing it to that Starbucks muck if they had any sense.
I can, however, understand the disappointment of foreigners who are used to being able to carry their kitchen sink onto an airline being denied that pleasure when boarding an Australian carrier. Come to think of it, nah, bugger the foreigners, and it appears that the LOTFAP is the only nation that is marching in-step on that score.
And here was I thinking that the VA board here consisted entirely of of dried-up old prunes. This thread has completely changed my mind.
As you were, ladies and gents.

But other countries are not quite the same as the USA - a fact that often seems to come as a surprise to your compatriots

As an American, I must (sadly) agree with this statement. The amount of ignorance of the rest of the world among my countrymen is appalling.

Yup. Decent meals on board, even on domestic sectors, and not having to buy a separate lounge membership to get into the lounges (despite having status) being just two of them.

The thread has deteriorated to a number of personal exchanges punctuated by ad hominem, overheated rhetoric and vitriol to the point it is of no use, so it will now be closed.
