Terminal A is quick to get through earlier in the day, but there are longer lines late afternoon/eveneing when most flights to Europe leave.

Overall, Philly Security is pretty easy on any of the terminals - big difference from the huge lines just a couple years ago.

Red face today @ PHL

Thanks everyone for all the excellent advice!

Transiting PHL today was a breeze! A shuttle bus picked us up at F & dropped us airside at B/C. From there it was a short walk past Dunkin Donuts to the elevator for the US Airways club lounge! The lounge was practically empty, has great coffee and a decent selection of magazines!

Now looking forward to my next trip to PHL - a great airport!

Is 45 Minutes enough connection time in PHL?

Flying flight 1746, MCO->PHL. Arrives 10:30AM.
Leaving flight 3424, PHL->YUL. Leaves 11:14AM. Operated by Republic Airlines.

Does anyone have any experience with a short connection in PHL? Should these flights be in the same terminal?

There is another PHL->YUL flight at 1:39PM. I was concerned and may call to change flights because of the short transfer time. I haven't been to PHL in years.

I think the answer depends on your personality. If you are going to stress about it then it may be too close. I would probably take the chance but that is just me - I don't mind running if I have to.

Both flights should be out of either B or C. You don't have to reclear security, and I would estimate that at a decent walking pace, it is a 10 minute walk from the end of B to the end of C. I would do it, but I might not recommend checking a bag.

I have no problems with making a little run.

I will, however, have a checked bag.

I'd do it as well. Your first flight is a morning flight so you (generally speaking) have a better chance of being on time.

The checked bag shouldn't be an issue, but I am nervous checking a bag through PHL (regardless of connection time). 99% of the time it should be fine. However, I am a former US PHL ramp agent. A lot of people are lazy and sometimes bags get handled poorly. There is a separate agent that meets the plane for transfer bags only, so with B & C so close (by tug), it shouldn't be an issue.

Are we certain that the PHL - YUL leg is not a terminal F? I have left in F or A for this leg but never in C.

It's Republic. Republic flights (almost) always leave out of B or C.

100% it is not in F. Republic flights (US3100 - 3499) are all handled by mainline and are out of B/C. There is a union contract that states that all aircraft with more than 50 seats are handled by mainline. Only the CR2s, ER-145s and Dash 8s are out of F. I suppose it could leave from A West - but unlikely as I don't recall ever seeing an express plane at A - but I've been gone for 2 years. Flight 3424 left from C26 today.

PHL and US Air

I will start flying US AIR weekly for the next several months, PHL-ORF.

As a Delta DM I use the PHL C/D gates and have Skyrpiority lines at security.

Does US Air have such thing (elite security lines) and if so for which gates at PHL? I understand I will be flying from the F (commuter) terminal.

Any advice is appreciated in making my life easier as I go from being a Delta DM to a US Air trial Silver prefered status

Any advice on ORF is also appreciated.

Thanks

There are preferred TSA lanes in the F terminal, and they may/may not accept your DL card. In all my times there, however, I've never experienced a horrible line so it may not matter.

I wouldn't waste my time checking into C/D and walking over to F versus waiting in a relatively quick line without an elite passenger lane, though.

It's about 99.9% certain a republic flight will be out of B or C. For whatever reason, N132HQ, a Republic Embraer 175, was parked at A18 (Terminal A-West) around late morning yesterday as I was arriving in a parking shuttle. Why it was there, I have no idea, I didn't even realize they'd painted lines on the tarmac for that type of aircraft in A-West.
