Update 08APR2014: Star Alliance Awards must have been booked by March 30, 2014. They are no longer available through US. This thread is mostly useful for historic purposes, and discussing issues such as schedule changes/route changes that affect FTers existing *A awards booked before 3/31/2014.

Discussion on using US miles to book oneworld awards is available here.

If you are looking for discussion on US's new partner awards that use various partners not in oneworld (many of whom are former *A partners), see the devoted thread on using US miles to book NON-oneworld partners here.

------------------------

Update 07JAN14: American Airlines award tickets bookable online on usairways.com or through reservation.

  • Award travel must be wholly on American Airlines or a combination of American Airlines and US Airways.
  • American Airlines awards cannot be combined with any of our current partner.
  • American Airlines award travel chart (PDF)

Please see the devoted thread on using US miles to book AA here.

ANA was showing nothing. but then he checked lifemiles... it also showed nothing available in business, but it showed several flights available once you selected the cabin to FIRST.

so I wonder if this is a coding error where 'business premier' is being mapped in some systems as 'O' rather than 'I' class? (and maybe not being shown on ANA because it knows NZ doesn't offer F?)

anyways... just putting it out there for what it's worth. if biz premier is available then it should be available to all star members!
seen it available on lifemiles strangely enough. interesting.

According KVS, NZ uses the A-cl as upgrade booking class for premium economy. A-cl is also used as discounted first class booking class within other *A airlines. But this can't apply to NZ as no first class available.

So seen, it would make sense if NZ uses O-cl as award booking class for premium economy... flyerguide.com indeed confirms, that NZ uses O-cl for premium economy...

The availability on a NZ flight says the same:

[KVS Availability Tool 7.3.0/Diamond - Availability/FS/US]
Code:
AKL Auckland Intl NZ [NZAA]
HKG Hong Kong Intl HK [VHHH]
TUE 01 Jul 2014

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
--------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- -----------------------------------------------------------------
NZ 87 AKL 23:00 HKG 06:30 772 C4 D4 Z4 J4 U4 E4 O4 A4 Y7 B7 M7 H7 Q7 V7 W7 T7 L7 S7 G0 X5 K0 P0
Maybe someone can book this first class on Lifemiles and give us a feedback, behind wich curtain he flew? ;-)

Are domestic Aegean flights allowed to be included in a US itinerary? For example, instead of flying US - Athens, flying US - Athens - Santorini/Mykonos. I see award availability on A3 when I search on ANA but nothing when I search on United. I know it's going to be complicated to piece it all together so I wanted to see if it's even allowed first.

Reissue involoving ANA?

I called US Air about a schedule change and was rebooked onto NH. I have the confirmation code for NH but NH could not locate my reservation. I called US Air again and they said it might take 24 hours for NH to see my reservation. Is it normal? BTW the flight is operated by ANA NOT Air Japan.

thanks for the update.

I'm not volunteering

(although I just noticed the selected flight above is a 772 - does it make any difference for the 77W? My friend was saying the first class transpac only came back for 77W services. Or is it same same?)

I would be surprised.

Anyway, I booked 8 tickets on A3 last month via USDM. Availability matched NH tool

Ah, nice point. I just looked for ATH-JMK and found availability most every day in the spring until May 17, then nothing. It sounds like United doesn't get/release A3 availability for the full 330 days in advance. Anyone know the release schedule?

You said it shows up on ANA. Maybe you should just try going by that and calling US. A3 is in star alliance so there's no reason you're not allowed to use them.

That is my plan, but as a MP member as well, I'm curious if anyone knows when they are released for online booking there. I'm sure others are as well.
