In Glenn Tilton's phone message to employees, Graham Atkinson specifically mentions that the newly configured 747s will be deployed on routes to HKG and SIN from SFO. That was about two weeks ago, but the message is still there. Found that interesting.

There's no 3C or 4C on the old 747, but they let you reserve them on the new one. Ditto for 13JK.

There is no sensilble reason for them to block the seats on the right side of the plane.

And they will be, at some point, as will all 747 routes.

So I'm planning an IAD-FRA trip for the first week of November. Looking at the schedule for 952 and 953 for the next 7 days on unitedcargo.com it seems like every day 952 and 953 are operating as a new config (67I).

Is this possibly true? Is there a pair of new planes running this route? If so, 952/953 might have just become the best flights in the whole system for me.

On a slightly related note, I notice that 916/917, the 747 flights (which are currently a mix of old/new) change over to a 777 in late October. The last flight on a 747 for 916 is October 24, and the last 747 for 917 is October 25. I wonder if that new-config plane is going?

952/953 was one of the first routes to get the new product, and I think by now it's pretty consistently the new product every day, barring last-minute aircraft substitution due to aircraft out of service, etc.

Both of my flts on Sat now have new config!

Wow.....talk about good luck. I'm flying SFO-ORD-MUC on Saturday, and during the past night, both flights seemed to undergo equipment changes to 767s with the new configuration. (Maybe it's even the same aircraft???)

Is this likely to stay, or might they be swtiched back to the old configuration? I'd be quite thankful having a sleeper suite and getting a good nap ^ , as opposed to being in a recliner !

Usually, changes this close to departure stick. But nothing's certain.

Don't bank on it. Two months ago I had a flight switch from new to old and then back to new again, all in less than 24 hours preceding the flight. On Wednesday, I had had new config for months, right up to less than 12 hours before departure. On boarding the plane - old config.

United list new config routes on the suitedreams website as a way of generating revenue by encouraging people to book on those routes. They obviously haven't realized yet that continually raising and then dashing people's expectations in this way is going to prove bad for their business. Better not to list a route at all until you've converted all the equipment and can virtually guarantee the new config.

They did not put you in the middle because you are a 1P, they put you there because that seat was available when your upgrade cleared.

What kind of upgrade on a 767 puts one in 2-3-2 seating?

I've got a SFO-KIX flight next month that's showing the new seat maps.

What a pleasant surprise that would be...
