That was 10 years ago. He resigned in 1998 and held various trainer positions afterwards. He was fired as the Nigerian National Trainer in February 2008.

So I guess he was just looking at the job market in the US

Feb 21 1665 IAD-SJU -- Carl Cameron sitting in 1D on Ted.

Thought he might be going down to scout out the June Dem Primary, but he said it was strictly vacation.

Heh. I'll bet you wouldn't have even minded if he'd pulled an "Ari", huh?

I've been on several flights with him, and with Jan Brown. :-: to both of them!

I had the honor of seeing Capt. Haynes speak about 10 years ago at a company I was working at. He was doing a talk on teamwork based on the UA232 experience.

It was a very good talk, but since he was speaking to a room of pilots and avionics engineers, it turned into a detailed discussion of the flight and the experience. Absolutely one of the best couple of hours of my career!

Amen to him being a real celebrity and hero.

Yes, especially since "hero" has been thrown around losely on this board recently

And here is a pre-emptive strike before a "who is Al Haynes" post (for the newer FT'ers) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Haynes

I knew a young NTSB investigator at the time -- at NTSB, they knew the plane was in trouble and watched it come in as they made preparations to go out to Sioux City for the investigation. He said it was the most horrifying experience he had had (in a pre-2001 conversation, of course), and couldn't say enough about Haynes' achievement.
