After flying with him to cross the MM threshold last month, by chance I landed on another Captain Denny flight on Monday night, LAX-IAD. He was great as usual.

I do go out of my way to fly on exclusively PMUA flights whenever possible, but that is just a little weird that of all the captains on UA, I have ended up on a flight with Denny three random times over the last two years.

I've flown with him twice over the past five years, and both flights were memorable.

What is the 57U?
I noted the same and asked Denny via email. I don't have a response yet.

Both men are the very best UA has to offer. It was frustrating to hear they tend to run into UA corporate headwinds for their amazing approach to customer service. What a shame.
And note there is a current fundraiser raffle for the Dahl Fund with some terrific prizes...see the link in my signature line.

From Post #1, in the text above the list of flights:

"Also a * preceding the flight number indicates a deadheading flight."

What is the 57U?
The schedule shows it as a 757-200. United has unique internal codes for aircraft not the same as the OAG. Many years back I got a hold of pilot and FA schedules and found the codes interesting.

The DH flight UA 1457 MSY-IAH is shown as a 73A looking at the schedule this is a 737-700.

What is the 57U?
Just a random fleet nerd here, but I'll take a stab.

According to this (which isn't always exactly current, but my favorite that is doesn't use interal fleet codes) 57U is the designation for Over Water (but not ETOPS) equiped/certified aircraft. There are considerably fewer of these birds (and approx half have already been sold/promised to FedEx by the end of the year) which would explain why we haven't seen many of them.

Flew down to IAH with him Jan-20 en route to AMS. Didn't put two and two together until just now as I was semi-distracted at the gate and on a conference call. I did tweet (https://twitter.com/domz_creek/statu...97772074389504) that morning after getting off the call just prior to boarding. It was a great flight, and his address to the gate before boarding was very impressive and reminded me why I don't mind (most of the time) that my employer still uses UA as our preferred carrier.
