Flew with Captain Denny last night on the SFO-JFK redeye. I didn't look at his schedule and was standing at the gate when I saw the captain grab the intercom and start talking. My face lit up when I realized it was Captain Denny. On board, I visited the cockpit with my significant other and he was very welcoming, let me sit in the captain's chair with his hat, and brought me some cool United goodies. He even went around the cabin handing out tootsie roll pops from goalie. Service on board the flight was awesome as well. All around ^

I noticed Capt. Denny was flying out of JFK this morning a little over an hour after my redeye arrived. I decided to hang out in the United Club for a light breakfast and touched base with the good captain via SMS. We had a nice chat at his departure gate and he mentioned meeting you and your +1, iceman77_7.
Pat, he also mentioned that he would send you his October schedule shortly, but he has quite a few days off.

Too funny to stumble upon this thread. Flew ORD to SAN sometime last year as a rarely upgraded Silver and got a handwritten card from Denny mid flight asking how he could exceed my expectations. I seem to get up front less often now with new companion rules even with Gold status. I'll keep an eye out for Mr. Flanagan nonetheless. Great story about a great ambassador.

I slept (or attempted to) pretty much from wheels up to double-chime on the way down. Woke-up to the handwritten card from Capt. Denny - always appreciated. My only issue with that crew, and I'm finding this to be common on the reconfigurd ps planes, is the mid C cabin galley tends to be the crew hang-out zone. Because I'm tall I like the bulkheads for the increased footwell space but it's bothersome trying to sleep with others talking.
Oh well. I was in a lie-flat bed on a domestic plane. First world problems.
Third world problems would be the way the PANYNJ handled the AirTrain outage; but that's a different issue. They suck at everything.

I was on that flight in 5A. FA came through and asked everyone if we wanted a "candy from the Captain." Thanks for doing that and it was certainly mission accomplished.

I would be curious to know if Captain Denny is finding scheduling changes/difficulties lately, given that almost 20 pmUA 757s have now been retired? I noticed some pretty low-hour trips in his most recent schedule update (e.g., PHX-DEN-LAX, CLE-PHX).

Keep in mind that according to FAR Part 121 Section 503 no pilot may fly more than 1000 hours in a calendar year and if a pilot works on average 80 hours per month that does not leave a lot of leeway in the schedule if there are IRROPS late in the year so it does seem like the airlines try to have a month or two during the year where pilots work lighter schedules. This also allows the airline to schedule mandatory recurrent training

Iirc, he's also qualified to drive the 767-not that it may help with bids but just throwing it out there
