2 segments, connection time under 4 hours, one segment has positive PZ space, but the other segment requires waitlisting.

UA says 20 PP due now (for the segment with positive PZ space) and 20 PP due later (for the waitlisted segment). At the end of the day, how many PPs would be charged if the waitlisted segment clears - 20 (total), or 40?

20 maximum for this trip. UA programmers were not smart enough to figure out your situation.
If you do a mileage run with a connection at a different hub in each direction (all connections under 4 hr), the total charge is also 20 pts for these four/five/six segments. 😄

UA should allow 1k and Plat members to transfer plus pints between each other!!!

Do 1Ks get 280 or 320 Pluspoints? My husband got 320 but I only got 280. I wrote to United and they told me that I got only 280 because I qualified for 1k with the "Fly to the Finish" promotion. Did other forum members that qualified through this promotion get only 280 Pluspoints?

You get 40 PlusPoints for reaching Platinum and 280 for reaching 1K. It seems that UA has decided that if you bypass Platinum on the way to 1K, you only get the 280.

From the wiki above:

Earning Rates
Premier Platinum: 40 points
Premier 1K: 320 points (includes the 40 points earned for reaching Platinum)

Using about to expire PointsPlus

If I have PointsPlus points that are going to expire at a certain date, can I use them on a flight after the expiration date if I request it before the points expire?

I don't fully understand what "expiring" means. I know that if the points expire on Tuesday, I can't request an upgrade on Wednesday. But if I requested an upgrade on Monday for a flight on Wednesday, but my points expire on Tuesday, do I still get the upgrade? Or do I get removed from the upgrade wait list?

Cannot request an upgrade past expiration date.
flight needs to be before expiry

Expiration means the flight you are applying the PlusPoints to must be scheduled to operate (fly) prior to expiration. No flights after expiration

The above is the simple rule, believe it is bit more complicate if you apply the same plus points to two or more flights, just the first flight needs to meet the expiration rule. Even if the first flight does not clear

It's interesting to me that they even allow you to request an upgrade using points that will expire before the flight date then.

Note it's only for when the points apply to both flights, so effectively it just means a second leg that starts after midnight the date of expiry. It wouldn't be, e.g., a return flight on the same itinerary that was happening weeks later.

Hmm, they did let me request an upgrade for later than the expiration a few months ago. Maybe they updated it recently since PPs are still relatively new.

It has been this way, even before and during the SWU, GPU/RPU periods. You probably did not notice that your PPs were extended before request.

There have been multiple expiration extensions and if you have any PlusPoints with later date, you will be fine.
